Fantasy Investing is back from a short break, and I am riding Knull's coattails to a profitable two months. Did your picks keep up with mine?
After skipping July, Fantasy Investing has returned for the fifth round. For the first time since I started this game, every single pick from round four showed a profit. If you need a refresher, go to the round four picks here.
The biggest winner, not surprisingly, was my 9.8 Venom #3 third print. I saw the writing on the wall and invested $300 fantasy dollars into the near-mint+ grade, and it paid off. As of August 7, it was sporting an $825 fair market value.
My other picks did well, too, but not nearly as much as that Venom third print. Still, having all my investments earn a $25-$50 return in a two-month span is very good, and it gave me a total budget of $3,000 to work with this month. The problem it created is I did not want to part with any of them, but the rules state that at least one has to go.
OUT WITH THE OLD
I decided to part ways with the 9.2 Amazing Spider-Man #300 and Sweet Tooth #1. Both of these are going to continue showing gains going forward, but my logic here is that I think they're going to have slower gains than the others on my list.
With $725 fantasy dollars to spend, I decided to mostly invest in modern comics because that is where the biggest FMV increases come from. I added 9.8s for Thor #2, Something is Killing the Children #1, and Venom #9. With the leftover funds, I dropped those on a low-grade Silver Surfer #4. That comic has been setting records this year, so I am banking on that trend continuing.

The leader board has changed. I went from first to third, and I blame it on not investing in Ultimate Fallout #4, which Ilya and ComicBookCollect both did, and it helped put them ahead of me.

THE RULES
With a starting budget of $2,000, how much profit can you make from comic investments? Here are the rules:

- You can have as many or as few comics as you like, as long as you don’t exceed the $2k budget.

- At the end of each month, the winner is determined by the biggest profit margin over the initial $2k budget.
- You have to sell at least one of your comics each month.
- Spend it or lose it. If you still have money left in your budget, it doesn’t carry over to the next round.
