Get your Nova keys ready because rumor has it that he is coming to Disney Plus.

After the overwhelming success of Marvel’s first Disney Plus special feature, fans can be sure there will be more to come. The latest report making the rounds is that Nova will make his debut in a Disney Plus special of his very own.

Fans have been waiting for him for nearly a decade now. As soon as Guardians of the Galaxy introduced the Nova Corps in 2014, the theories automatically shifted toward Marvel’s very own Green Lantern. In the comics, the original character, Richard Rider, was chosen to carry on the Nova Corps when Xandar’s galactic police force was destroyed. Giving rise to plenty of theories, it just so happened that Thanos wiped out their MCU counterparts in the offscreen moments leading to Infinity War. That left many comic readers confident that Rider would take up the cause as the last Nova member in Endgame

Since then, there have been no sightings or Nova Easter eggs to be found. However, James Gunn mentioned in a tweet that he was a fan of Nova. That ramped up speculation that Nova was on his way to the MCU, and he was finally confirmed for his own movie earlier this year.

When San Diego Comic-Con came and went without a word about a Nova movie, it left many fans with questions. It seems they’re about to get some answers in the form of the aforementioned Disney Plus special. While nothing is official, it does beg the question, which version of the character will we see? That should have you eying these key issues.

At the top of the list is Rider, who is most closely associated with the Nova character. Debuting in 1976’s Nova #1, there’s no argument that this is the primary collecting target. There’s no guarantee that he will be the MCU’s Nova. In fact, Kevin Feige seems to enjoy casting newer versions of classic characters (i.e., Scott Lang as Ant-Man). No matter who suits up, Nova #1’s fair market values and sales volume won’t suffer any ill effects.

With nothing being official on the Nova special, prices are not surging…yet. Currently, the 30-day fair market value for a graded 9.8 sits at a comfortable $1,598, which is down from the $2,224 12-month FMV. The better option is the 9.6, and that grade has averaged $400 over the past 30 days. However, one sold for $499 on October 14, so prices may be on the way up.

By all accounts, Sam Alexander is the most likely Nova we’ll see in the MCU. He’s been featured in the Disney XD Spider-Man cartoons, and his name is frequently mentioned among all the Nova movie speculation. That makes his first appearance in Marvel Point One #1 a popular target among collectors.

Ever since the first reports of a Nova project surfaced, Marvel Point One #1 has been on the rise. In the past month, it’s sold for as much as $225, and the last sale was for $168 on Sunday.

Marvel could venture away from the male Novas and feature Frankie Raye in the role. Although she died in the comics, she could live on through the MCU. Adding her to the mix could also open doors for the Fantastic Four and the Silver Surfer as Frankie was once a herald of Galactus as well. That should have you taking a closer look at her first appearance in FF #164.

There haven’t been any 9.8s to trade hands online since one sold for $1,080 in 2020. Looking to save money? Check out the 9.6, which went for $456 in June.

WHAT IF…? #15

If Feige and company want to throw everyone a curve, this would be the way to go. In What If…? tale, we’re introduced to Frankie Raye’s female Nova successor, Helen Taylor. She only appeared in this issue, and the story is non-canonical, but that hasn’t stopped collectors from pointing to these What If…?s as legitimate firsts.

In the past year, the graded 9.8 has sold for as much as $295. The last time one traded hands, it brought $279.

Again, nothing is official, so take this for what it is: a rumor. After the Werewolf By Night reception, it’s logical that Marvel is looking ahead for the next Disney Plus one-hour special. One way or another, we’ll see Nova in live-action, and the hype for that moment will definitely send those keys into supernova status.
