The monthly Top 10 CGC Submissions is a curated list of comics and magazines that have been moving up CGC's grading lists. CGCData.com pulls the data straight from CGC over the past 30 days.

For the month of August, there are many familiar faces (e.g., Wolverine Limited Series #1, X-Men #1 and Amazing Spider-Man #300), and strong representation from the Rippaverse for the third straight month. Let's take a closer look at last month's CGC submissions.

Without further ado, here are the Top 10 CGC submissions during the month of August:

1. Yaira #1 Variant Cover C (2024, Rippaverse);

2. Yaira #1 (2024, Rippaverse);

3. Wolverine Limited Series #1 (1982, Marvel);

4. Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #8 (1984, Marvel);

5. Star Trek: Countdown #1 (2024, IDW Publishing);

6. Star Trek: Countdown #1 Variant Cover C (2024, IDW Publishing);

7. X-Men #1 (1991, Marvel);

8. Star Trek: Countdown #1 Variant Cover B (2024, IDW Publishing);

9. Yaira #1 Variant Cover B (2024, Rippaverse); and

10. Amazing Spider-Man #300 (1988, Marvel).

Yaira #1 has been the No. 1 CGC submission for two months in a row.

Remarkably, Yaira #1 has been in the top 10 CGC submissions for three straight months and has been the number one submission for two straight months now. As explained in this video by Rippaverse founder, Eric July, the Rippaverse has been selling CGC Signature Series copies of many of its comics includingYaira #1. It's difficult to know what the market value of these are, but the Rippaverse website is selling Signature Series copies of Isom #1 in the $125 to $150 range. The website also alleges over $92,000 in sales of its Signature Series sales.

As for Yaira #1, GoCollect does confirm the sale of at least one Signature Series 9.8 for $256 for a fixed price on eBay back in July:

There are 212 9.9s and 37 10.0s of Yaira #1 on the CGC Census.

If you are looking for a Signature Series copy of this issue, I'd be cautious about purchasing a 9.8. A 9.8 used to be the gold standard for collectors, but there are a nearly unbelievable number of 9.9s (212) and 10.0s (37) of this issue on the CGC Census. Receiving a 9.9 or a 10.0 used to be like finding a unicorn, but that certainly is not the case with this issue! Personally, I've never seen any comic with so many 9.9s and 10.0s.

A Star Trek reprint was a newcomer to the Top 10 in August.

You don't often see Star Trek comics in any top 10 list related to comic books (especially a reprint), but a reprint of Star Trek: Countdown #1 actually occupied three spots in August.

Back in May, CGC announced that it would host actor Chris Pine for a private signing. Collectors and dealers clearly responded in kind submitting nearly 900 copies of this reprint (including several different variant covers) to CGC. According to CGCData.com, these were the first ever submissions of this reprint to CGC (which is not surprising since IDW published the reprint in 2024).

It certainly helped that the reprints featured Pine on its cover. It's not yet clear what the market value of these Signature Series comics are, but quite a few of them are already listed on eBay for sale in the $350 to $429 price range. One 9.6 recently sold on eBay, but it was unclear what it sold for since it was a "best offer accepted" sale.

The profit margin is likely to be small considering the signing cost of $285 per book ($305 if the book was pressed), not including shipping to CGC and transaction fees that eBay charges.
