Welcome back to this week's look at Heritage's Sunday night movie poster auction! Every week Heritage auctions off some truly unique finds across all movie genres, such as movie serials, animation, science fiction, romance, and more. Each week I find a few gems that could be overlooked! Here are my pics for this week's unique finds!
Before I was born my mom was a die-hard Bruce Springsteen fan. She had ventured to Asbury Park, New Jersey, to see him perform in the beginning, and she and my dad would eventually bond over Springsteen's rock anthem's. Growing up you couldn't escape him in our house. Not that I'm complaining, but imagine a 4 or 5-year-old belting out the lyrics to Dancing In The Dark when it came over the family car CD player. I think many of us have a similar story, and most of us grew up listening to his work! Born in the U.S.A would become 1985's best-selling album, and would shoot Springsteen to superstar status. The album itself is decade-defining, and many consider it to be one of the best of all time. Following this commercial success was Tunnel of Love, Springsteen's 8th studio album. A solid follow-up and a great album in itself, Tunnel of Love unfortunately had to follow Born in the U.S.A., which in my opinion, is a very tough act to follow.
This lot contains two posters - one for Born in the U.S.A., and one for the Tunnel of Love Express Tour. Both of these are unrestored and noted as being in Very Fine condition. These pieces would be ideal in any Springsteen or music collection, and would display particularly well!
South Park: Bigger Longer & Uncut
Every once in a while a show will come out that immediately changes pop culture and the way we view television. Created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, they created two animated specials in 1992 and 1995 respectively. These specials would lay the groundwork for the show, which first aired on Comedy Central in 1997. I was going into 7th grade that year -- which meant everyone in my grade (and school) was watching South Park. The show is still running to this day, with over 300 episodes under its belt and several specials. In 1999 the first movie was released. South Park: Bigger Longer & Uncut was even more unhinged than the television show, the movie takes pointed jabs at censorship and the Disney Renaissance. South Park is still as relevant as it was in 1997, something a lot of television shows simply can't do.
This poster looks great. Heritage notes that it is unrestored and virtually untouched with a Very Fine / Near Mint grade. When it comes to American animation, South Park is a staple. This would be a fantastic addition to any collection.
Batman & Robin Villains Poster
Another gem from 1997, Joel Schumacher's colorful comic book opera is considered one of the worst and might have had a big part in killing the comic book movie genre in the 1990s. For me, this was the perfect summer film that my grandmother took me to see. I was all of 11 and Batman was my whole life -- arguably, Batman is still my whole life. Batman & Robin had it all. Bright, colorful fight scenes. Terrible dialogue. Arnold Schwarzenegger having the time of his life with ice puns. And Batgirl -- who was Alfred's niece in this universe. Due to poor reception and even worse box office numbers, Batman & Robin was the end of the first Batman film series. Looking back, this movie was a ton of fun. As I said earlier, I was 11 when this came out. This movie looked like a real-life comic book. While George Clooney is not my favorite Batman, his take on the caped crusader is fantastic in this movie. This poster features the three villains, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, and Bane, in all of their over-the-top glory. Uma Thurman's Ivy is iconic, and simply can't be touched by any of the modern Batman movie villains. Of course, Schwarzenegger killed it as Mr. Freeze, and Bane was misused.
Heritage notes that this poster is unrestored and in Very Fine+ condition. I love this poster, and if you appreciate over-the-top camp, this is the perfect poster for you.
