Spellbinders Nominated For ALA Award

Spellbinders, the mini-series by Mike Carey (X-Men) and Mike Perkins (Captain America), has been nominated for a prestigious Great Graphic Novel Award by the Young Adult Library Services Association.

The 2005 mini-series, now collected in a digest, introduced wholly new characters into the Marvel Universe in a horror fantasy story set in an American high school. Similar to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the horror fantasy context was used by Carey and Perkins to comment on the everyday life of being a high school student.

Andrea Speed of Comixtreme.com said, “If you like the concept of magic slinging teens - who still go to a regular high school - gathering together to fight evil, then you’ll want to give this one a look.”

Other Marvel nominees included House of M TPB, Ultimate Iron Man Vol.1 Premiere HC, Spider-Man: The Other Vol.1 TPB, Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E. Vol.1 Premiere HC, Young Avengers Vol.1 Premiere HC and Vol.2 HC, Marvel Zombies HC, X-23: Innocence Lost TPB, Mary Jane Vol.2: Homecoming Digest, Runaways Vol.4, 5 and 6 Digest, and Livewires: Clockwork Thugs, Yo! Digest.

Marvel congratulates Carey, Perkins, editor Mackenzie Cadenhead, and all of the other nominees.
