Xoc Journey Of A Great White HCMedia Release -- Matt Dembicki, writer and artist of the nature graphic novel Xoc: The Journey of a Great White (Oni Press), will sign and talk about his book April 18, 5-7 p.m., at the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco. This event is free and open to the public.

Xoc explores the Pacific Ocean through the eyes of one of the animal kingdom's top predators, the Great White shark. The adventure starts in our backyard and the predators' stomping ground, the Farallon Islands, located roughly 30 miles off the coast of San Francisco. The story embarks on a cross-ocean journey, following the encounters of a 17-foot shark—from preying to being preyed on.

"Xoc: The Journey of a Great White moves shark conservation into a whole new genre," according to Mark Richardson of the Shark Trust , an international shark advocacy organization based in the UK.

MEEPzine called Xoc "an entertaining, well-informed, and conservation-aware tale of one of the ocean's most well-known but least-understood predators."

Xoc was featured in the NY Times' Motherlode, as a graphic novel containing educational substance in the subject of science. (http://parenting.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/10/16/home-schooling-comic-con-style-part-1/)

In addition, Matt will discuss his upcoming project with Fulcrum Publishing and Pangea Seed, an ocean conservation organization that uses art in its outreach and fundraising efforts.

Third Thursdays occurs every month of the year in the Yerba Buena neighborhood of San Francisco, involving galleries and museums extending their hours throughout the neighborhood to create a lively atmosphere of arts and interaction. For more information: visityerbabuena.org
