Media Release -- Beginning on October 10, 2011, the Cartoon Art Museum's ongoing Small Press Spotlight will feature the art of Jonas Madden-Connor.
Jonas Madden-Connor is a cartoonist living and working in Berkeley. He's the creator of the award-winning minicomic series Ochre Ellipse, which explores the medium through metafictional devices. Of Ochre Ellipse 3, the Daily Crosshatch wrote, "No matter what your own experience has you read into this book, you're guaranteed to be swept up in its spell. For me at least, the experience was really rare. Hands down one of the best books I'll read all year."
Jonas' work has appeared in many collections including Papercutter, The Comic Book Guide to the Mission, and most recently, Digestate, a food and eating themed anthology. He has been nominated for and won several awards, including Ignatz and Maise Kukoc, but his most proudest moment was winning the 2008 Isotope Award for Excellence in Mini-Comics because it came from one of his favorite local comic shops. Jonas is currently hard at work on his science fiction magnum opus, and in the meantime you can find his work online at http://mumblingmynah.com
The opening reception for this exhibition takes place Saturday, October 13, 2012, from 8:00-11:00pm in conjunction with the opening reception for Love and Rockets: A 30th Anniversary Celebration. Tickets for this fundraiser may be pre-purchased here: http://guestlistapp.com/events/125643 About the Small Press Spotlight: San Francisco has been a hotbed of innovative, groundbreaking comic art since the late 1800s with the advent of the modern comic strip. In the1960s, the Bay Area gained further notoriety when the underground comix movement launched from San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury district. Today, some of the biggest names in alternative and small-press comics hail from the Bay Area, and the Cartoon Art Museum's Small Press Spotlight focuses on the works of these talented individuals.
