Dark Horse Comics Digital ComicsThis January, Dark Horse Comics is launching a new and ambitious digital publishing program known as the Dark Horse Bookshelf app, eliminating additional third-party fees from its eComics. Not only will readers be able to enjoy more Dark Horse comics at lower prices, but comic creators will receive a greater percentage of each digital sale. In short, readers get their comics cheaper and creators make more money.

The Dark Horse Bookshelf app will be available on iPad, iPod Touch, and iPhone, but comics can be purchased and read on any device with a browser at the Dark Horse Digital Bookstore. Launching in January 2011 with comics priced at $1.49 an issue—50 cents lower than the industry standard—the Dark Horse Bookshelf app will be downloadable on iTunes. Additional updates can be found here.

Launching with over 150 titles, including Dark Horse's wildly popular horror anthology Creepy, Mike Mignola's Hellboy and B.P.R.D., Joss Whedon's Fray and Serenity, and Felicia Day's The Guild—as well as Mass Effect, Conan, Umbrella Academy, The Goon and many more—the pricing at the Dark Horse Digital Bookstore offers eComic readers unprecedented value.

While single-issue comics are priced at the industry-low $1.49, Dark Horse will also offer an extensive list of free introductory #1 issues. Plus, Dark Horse Digital Publishing's comic bundles will group together story arcs spanning multiple issues into easily affordable packages, allowing readers to get three or four issues for $2.99 to $5.99. In addition, starting in February 2011, most Dark Horse titles will feature synchronized release in both the digital and print formats.
