Age Of Ultron #6 of 10
Marvel Comics
Bendis, Peterson, Pacheco & Martinez
Age of Ultron moves to the back half of the event and has its most engaging and relevant issue to date. Bendis finally delivers an issue with some interesting plot and it makes the comic appear to leap forward even if it's not really substantial yet. However, the comic ends in such a way that I am actually looking forward to the next issue which is a feat in of itself. Overall this is a decent read.
The comic book moves quickly. There are two threads in the comic book as this issue picks up directly where things where left off from the previous issue.
Wolverine goes back in time to kill Hank Pym, unbeknownst to Nick Fury. While Fury leads a team into the future to find Ultron and kill him or stop him.
The Wolverine thread is near perfect. A stowaway follows Wolverine, but not necessarily to stop him. This gives Wolverine a sounding board for his rationale for wanting to kill Pym rather than just asking him to stop from making Ultron. The details are heavily glossed over as to how they arrive at the exact moment in time when Pym hatches the idea of creating Ultron but it makes for decent theater. The sequence contains a couple of light moments which help to round this out nicely.
The future sequence wasn't the best part of the comic book but it is serviceable. Again, the details are glossed over as to how they find Ultron with only one time jump but that really doesn't make much of a difference in the story. The portion of this story that makes it average is the lack of planning. Fury seems to send everyone charging in with little plan. The results are fairly interesting.
The art improves with this issue. There is a lot of drama involving Wolverine and his stowaway as the pair discusses what they should do with Pym. The emotion comes across naturally in the artwork which is a big plus. The Fury sequences are action packed and the art is up to the task as well. Some of the panels are difficult to determine what is happening but these are minor points. Overall, the story is enhanced with the art.
Age of Ultron is starting to get to the heart of the event it seems. After five drawn out issues things pick up in what is by far the most entertaining issue of the entire event. Hopefully the final four issues will keep the tempo up. This was a good read.
