"Faster Than Light" is a science-fiction, horror comic book that presents a slow first issue. The comic book takes a lot of time to introduce the characters, their problem and the embarking of the adventure. The book has some nice visuals that help the story along. The series shows some promise but will need to pick up the pace in the coming issues.

The comic begins and ends with an interview with the man who discovered that travelling faster than light was possible. Despite being the person to discover this he is not on the maiden voyage and that's because he knows the dangers out there.

The comic book spends the middle pages setting up the plot and the characters. There is a divide among the crew. Some are aware of what the real mission is while others are not clued in. The comic book adds some other complexities, such as the rush to launch the mission with untested technology and politics. The book definitely introduces a very complex set of ideas in the initial issue. Did I mention there is also a massive alien threat?

The comic is a good read. I think if you like science fiction then you will feel right at home. However, with the slow pace and lack of action, the common reader might have trouble latching onto this book. As far as first issues goes it is a good read but not a great one.

Brandon Borzelli's Geek Goggle ReviewsThe artwork is very good. There are a few panels that really take the attention of the reader. Some of the space scenes and the reveal of the threat are particularly memorable. The characters have some distinct features, which is helpful because there seems to be one or two new ones every page or so. The visuals are a positive for this comic book.

"Faster Than Light" brings horror to science fiction. The first issue builds up the plot, introduces the characters and sets the stage for what looks to be an exciting series. The initial issue is a slower read as the plot is put together with a lot of characters and with careful placing of dialogue. This is a good beginning to what appears to be a series worth watching.
