Chapter Eight of "All Out War" on the surface is a slow issue, but this is truly the calm before the storm. Its issues like this that make me look back at the previous issue and think they dragged this out too much. On the other hand, Kirkman has such a big cast to manage it becomes clear that he barely can devote a full page to any one set of character interactions. While this is a problem for character introductions and development, it makes for a faster reading experience. The comic's high point is the cliffhanger ending.

This issue explores a lot of threads. Some of the quieter moments seem to occur between couples. Some of which we knew about, while others we didn't. The moments typically don't last longer than a page and this is obviously Kirkman's last chance for some of these characters to get some panel time before he kills some of them off.

The rest of the book involves positioning the characters for, what might, be the final battle of the long arc. Rick makes his plans and he seems to be thinking ahead a little bit more than in previous issues. Negan is making his moves as well, but he is thinking more of engagement strategy instead of tactical strategy. Negan seems to be thinking the combat will be more up close or even hand to hand. It will be interesting to see where this heads.

Brandon Borzelli's Geek Goggle ReviewsThe artwork is very good. There are three big splash pages and each has its place in the book that make for excellent moments. The one, in particular, where Negan is standing in front of a lineup of zombies is outstanding. Completely detailed and stunning to look at it. It's something that makes for a great poster. Amidst the quiet scenes the artwork is a shining gem in the book.

This was a good read. I think this one is better than the previous slower issue. This gives some deception, some tactic talk and some nice (potentially good-bye) conversations. Plus, you get a lot of Negan, which is a good thing. The All Out War seems to be moving to the final battle. It's not clear how the next four issues will play out but the tension is beginning to be felt. This is a good book to pick up.
