95 years after Mickey Mouse's inception, and he's still trending! The Amazing Spider-man #17 variant by Lorenzo Pastrovicchio, featuring Mickey Mouse and Disney cast, is climbing the charts. The Walt Disney Company bought Marvel Entertainment for a whopping $4 billion back in 2009. As part of Disney's 100th year anniversary in a year-long program, we get to see our favourite Disney characters alongside or reimagined as Marvel's superheroes and villains.
Amazing Spider-man #17 was the first cover in this program (see below for other covers in the program). However, Mickey's first appearance in a Marvel comic was back in 2019. Marvel made its inaugural appearance at the D23 Expo: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event back in 2011.
2019 D23 Expo Variants
For Marvel's 80th anniversary, variant copies of Marvel Comics #1000 by Humberto Ramos were given away during the Marvel Panel at 2019 D23 Expo. Rare black and white versions, limited to 30 copies, were gifted out to superfans by Marvel Editor in Chief C.B. Cebulski.
Special black and white editions of convention variants given out by C.B. Cubulski seem to be a trend. 25 copies of Silver Surfer Black #2 Sketch variant by Giuseppe Camuncoli were given out at the 2019 SDCC and 25 copies of Wolverine #1 Sketch variant by R.B. Silva were given out at the 2020 C2E2 Convention.
Turkish Variant
If you've seen my other posts, you know I've fallen down the rabbit hole of foreign comic collecting. And there is a foreign version of Mickey's first appearance, aka the Turkish delight! Published by Gerekli ?eyler in 2021, this Turkish edition reprints Humberto Ramos' amazing cover but adds the trade dress.
2022 D23 Expo Variants
At the 2022 D23 Expo, in celebration of Spider-man's 60th anniversary and Disney's 100th anniversary, two variants Amazing Fantasy #1000 by Humberto Ramos were distributed during the celebrating Spiderman panel. And yes, there were rare black and white copies given out by Marvel editors C.B. Cebulski and Nick Lowe. These had an even smaller print run, limited to 25 each!
Disney's 100th Anniversary Celebration
The Amazing Spider-man #17, along with issues #19 by Giada Perissinotto and #21 by Vitale Mangiatordi, was part of the first batch up covers.

The second batch of variants will be for the Amazing Spider-man issues #23 by returning artist Lorenzo Pastrovicchio, #25 by Donald Soffritti, and #27 by Claudio Sciarrone. There will 1:100 ratio incentive black and white variants for these as well, currently only previews for #23 are available..
These comics are of interest to Disneyana, Marvel, Spider-man, and general comic fans. Which of these comics are you looking most to collect? If there's something that isn't on the list, please let me know in the comments below.
