Tales of Fear: The Zombie IssueMedia Release -- Gary Scott Beatty, Xeric awarded writer and illustrator, and creator of Tales of Fear, is offering something different to backers of his Tales of Fear #2: The Zombie Issue campaign at Kickstarter. He's offering to make them zombies.

"I was thinking about throwing a party to take photo references of friends for Tales of Fear #2, and how much fun they'd have becoming zombies in the book," said Beatty. "Then it hit me -- why not make Kickstarter backers into zombies?" Anyone interested can visit http://www.talesoffear.com

Beatty will turn people into zombies digitally, working from their supplied photographs. "They can use it on their Christmas cards, their zombie union cards, their Facebook page -- wherever they want!"

Many ordered Tales of Fear #1 and that book is now on comic shop shelves. Beatty was hesitant about his illustration style at first. "I wasn't sure a horror anthology comic book pushing the boundaries of good taste, with a "video game in watercolor" look, would resonate with readers. It did!

"It's far from a traditional comic book drawing style, but I think the realism adds some weight to the horror."

Beatty is planning a follow-up issue devoted entirely to zombies. Kickstarter campaign rewards also include Beatty's full catalog of books published by Aazurn Publishing since 2008, including Xeric Grant winner Jazz: Cool Birth.

"We had discussions at conventions about whether the Jazz book was actually a comic book or not," laughed Beatty. "Tales of Fear is a world away from that illustration style, too. I guess you could say I get bored drawing like everyone else."

Kickstarter is a system that connects readers to creators. If Beatty's project reaches its funding goal, Tales of Fear: The Zombie Issue happens.

"You can bring it to life," said Beatty, "at TalesofFear.com."
