It's 1987, and local arcades are frenzied with the release of Street Fighter, Capcom’s now-legendary fighting game. I was there, and it was such epic fun, I often find myself yearning to experience that all over again

It was a fast-paced, easy game to learn that gave a lot of kids a chance to hone their 2D fighting skills rather quickly, with the help of RYU of course! Then, the genre exploded into a global phenomenon with the arrival of Street Fighter II just a few years later, and the franchise has never looked back.

Today, 38 years after that first pixelated punch, the Street Fighter brand remains a cultural powerhouse, driving passionate fan engagement and dominating the competitive gaming space. Damn, I could NEVER have envisioned telling my parents one day I could make $1,000,000 SMACKAROOS by video gaming, but alas, gaming tournaments are a pretty big deal these days!

A THRIVING GLOBAL COMMUNITY

At the heart of this longevity is massive Street Fighter Fanbase. In 2024, the Capcom Pro Tour and Evolution Championship Series (EVO) drew tens of thousands of in-person attendees and millions more online. The EVO 2024 finals alone were watched by over 400,000 viewers globally, spending more than 3.66 MILLION minutes watching the games.

Clear proof Street Fighter is far more than a retro relic, it’s a modern esports titan. Capcom’s 2024 fiscal year reported over $275 million USD in revenue from the Street Fighter franchise alone, including game sales, merchandise, licensing, and esports partnerships.

VeVe + Street Fighter: Another First-of-Its-Kind Digital Drop

Skip ahead those 38 years again, and I'm now In November 2025, where Capcom is once again entering the digital collectible arena, partnering with VeVe for their launch of the Street Fighter Digital Collectible Asset Set.

Capcom's first foray into digital assets was via the WAX Blockchain in Feb 2021 as digital collecting cards. These 2D (with some animation) collectibles helped unlock & raise awareness of digital asset's key feature, proven authenticity and ownership. However, moving onto VeVe's platform opens an entirely new game - 3D, Full Animation & metaverse (gaming???) potential that take digital assets to an entirely new BOSS LEVEL.

Remember that earlier note about yearning to relive that 'first ever gaming experience' back in the late 1980's? Well punch my face & try to beat Sheng Long, we have another #NostalgiaReSpark moment thanks to the vision of these two great brands!

Coming off a MASSIVE May 2025 revenue run for VeVe, where they dropped some incredible Lucasfilm canon-firsts like 3D / AR (cutaway animation) Stormtrooper helmets, Mandalorian #1, Podracers & of course, IMPERIAL WALKERS, over $550,000 in digital collectible sales were funnelled through the VeVe ecosystem!

So, here we are yet again, with another chance to own a piece of gaming history in an entirely new format. Let's face it - we are ALL addicted to our mobile phones and live in a basically digitally-first world with everything we do. Hence, the growing market and ease of digital asset collecting is enhancing the way anyone, anywhere can choose to participate.

VeVe has the Track Record to Prove it:

  • 6 million+ digital collectibles sold

  • 4 million+ digital comics sold

  • $1.4 BILLION USD in secondary market transactions

  • Collectors in 150+ countries

These figures were confirmed by VeVe’s COO & Co-Founder Dan Crothers at Lisbon ComicCon in June 2025, underscoring the platform’s global demand and collector engagement. The digital collectibles market is forecast to grow from about $11 Billion USD today to more than $48 billion by 2033. May as well take a peek!

SPECIAL MINT HUNTING ALERT!

OBVIOUSLY this had to be mentioned, as I so enjoy hunting special edition numbers with highly unique meaning. So to those of you sharing this passion, I apologise for including this spoiler alert!

Famed collectors COMICS & CRYPTO have offered up an enormous bounty of $4,000 USD to whoever lands mint #1987 (year of the games release), with another $1,500 USD should you happen to hold #236, one of the most coveted attack sequence codes in the game's history! (Or, should you choose, VeVe heavy collector drahko.eth may go even higher, asking whoever lands the 1987 to contact him through a direct message on X.)

With a fanbase spanning nearly four decades and a digital marketplace hungry for nostalgic, high-quality IPs, the Street Fighter drop on VeVe is poised to be nothing short of legendary. As nostalgic memories transform into blockchain-backed assets (aka: RWTAs - Real World Tokenized Assets), it’s clear: the fight continues and now, you can own a part of it!
