Welcome back to this week's look at Heritage's Sunday night movie poster auction! Every week Heritage auctions off some truly unique finds across all movie genres, such as movie serials, animation, science fiction, romance, and more. Each week I find a few gems that could be overlooked! Here are my pics for this week's unique finds!
Class of Nuke 'Em High 1 & 2 Poster Lot
For 50 years Troma Entertainment has been creating works of art in the horror genre. Almost every movie in the Troma catalog is over the top, gross, full of creative practical effects, and then some. While Troma may not be everyone's cup of tea, there's no denying the impact they have had in pop culture, especially with the company's most well-known character, The Toxic Avenger. But there's more to Troma than Toxie and his mop!
Class of Nuke 'Em High is a 1986 horror comedy that takes place in Tromaville High School. The students of said high school see their lives turned upside down due to radioactive drugs. The movie is bad, but that truly makes it great. This is a fun low-budget horror movie that relies heavily on practical effects, something we don't see too much of today. The movie spawned four sequels, and there have been talks of remaking Class of Nuke 'Em High. The Toxic Avenger has already seen a remake - due out in the summer of 2025 - so maybe we'll see more Troma classics with higher remake budgets!
This unrestored lot includes Class of Nuke 'Em High, and Class of Nuke 'Em High II; Subhumanoid Meltdown. Heritage notes that these posters are unrestored and in overall Very Fine - condition. These are two excellent B movie horror posters with great art.
Sadie Love (1919)
Antique posters are always a delight to see in any auction. This linen poster for the silent comedy Sadie Love stars Billie Burke, who is arguably best known for portraying Glinda the Good Witch in 1939's The Wizard of Oz. Burke was a popular silent film actress who was able to jump into talkies. Burke was also noted as being a very fashionable woman at the time and was rather popular with fans. Sadie Love, based on the 1915 stage play, was one of Burke's early silent movies. Unfortunately, the film is considered a piece of lost media with no known surviving film.
Heritage notes that this poster is restored, with paper loss on the edges. Otherwise, this poster is in Fine + condition.
The Lone Star Ranger Glass Slide (1930)
The Lone Star Ranger was a pre-code western film that can still be found today. However, the only surviving version is the International Sound Version. That version replaced the dialogue and title cards for non-English speaking viewers. However the movie is based on a novel by Zane Grey, so it would be easy for those curious about the film to fill in the blanks. The movie stars George O'Brien, a popular early cinema actor who was able to jump into talkies. He would go on to star in many Western and action films.
This glass slide is noted as being unrestored and in overall Fine + condition. Glass slides are a unique piece of pop culture history, with many of the ones coming up for auction being for lost films. These are delicate, but with the right collector, they could have a long life.
