Welcome back to this week's look at Heritage's Sunday night movie poster auction! Every week Heritage auctions off some truly unique finds across all movie genres, such as movie serials, animation, science fiction, romance, and more. Each week I find a few gems that could be overlooked! Here are my pics for this week's unique finds!
The Brides of Dracula (1960)
Hammer's The Brides of Dracula was a direct follow-up to their 1958 hit, Dracula. Yet despite being a sequel - and having Dracula in the title - Christopher Lee's Dracula doesn't appear at all in this film. Lee wouldn't return to the Dracula character until 1966's Dracula: Prince of Darkness. The Brides of Dracula does star Peter Cushing as Van Helsing, a role he absolutely nailed. This fun, eerie, and exciting Hammer film is a personal favorite, and if you haven't seen it yet, stop reading and go watch it. This film was praised by critics and audiences, and many consider it one of the better Hammer horror films.
This stunning day-glow poster is hard to come by. This poster is unrestored and in Fine+ condition, but it is folded. This deserves to be on display in any collection and to be enjoyed for years to come.
Spaceballs (1987)
If you grew up in the 1980s and 1990s, you were probably raised with a heavy dose of Mel Brooks films. For me it was a toss-up between Robin Hood: Men in Tights, and Spaceballs. While we could talk about how the later Brooks films weren't as funny as his earlier works (Blazing Saddles remains one of the funniest films of all time), Spaceballs holds a special place in my heart. The in-movie marketing done by the wise old Yogurt - master of the Schwartz - was clever and fun. As such, this auction for Spaceballs: The Poster should be on your radar. This is one of the more successful Star Wars parody films and is a solid watch for viewers of all ages. A sequel has been discussed for some time, and as of this year, it looks like something is in the pre-production stages.
This unrestored poster is noted as being in Fine / Very Fine condition, and despite signs of wear, looks great. If you were thinking of adding Spaceballs: The Poster to your collection, now is the perfect time to do so!
They Live (1988)
John Carpenter is one of the most celebrated names in history. His work is iconic and has stood the test of time. His legacy has inspired countless filmmakers, including Guillermo del Toro, James Wan, and James Cameron. John Carpenter has helped define the modern horror genre, with such movies as:
Halloween
The Fog
The Thing
Christine
and of course, They Live. Roddy Piper and Keith David, the movie's leads, worked incredibly well, as the two had genuine on-screen chemistry. The iconic line "I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass. And I'm all out of bubblegum." defines They Live well. The movie amassed a cult following, though you could argue that it's no longer a cult film given how celebrated They Live has become.
This unrestored poster is in Very Fine- condition, and tells you everything you need to know about the movie. I absolutely love this poster, and I think you will too!
