- About
- Late in 1965, San Francisco Mime Troupe founder R.G. "Ronnie"Davis was indicted for performing in public parks without a permit. A series of three benefit concerts were held starting in November 1965 and culminating with this show, known as "Appeals III," in January 1966. Bill Graham organized each event and for this show he hired a new band he knew as the Warlocks. Unbeknownst to Graham, the Warlocks had changed their name to the Grateful Dead (which he didn't like) so he demanded that they change their name back. The band failed to comply so Graham removed their picture from the poster and replaced it with "Formerly the Warlocks."This show predated the BG-1 show by only a couple of weeks and this poster's importance is profound.
