Most of the columns on this site are of a particular style.  Recently, we published an article on the Top 5 comics from each age that was full of information that got right down to it. That was the inspiration for this column which gives some quick hits on comic books and trends in the industry.  So without further delay...

Comic Books that are Under-Appreciated

1. Caliber Presents #1

First appearance of the Crow - well below the FMV for Crow #1.  Reboot with Bill Skarsgard on the horizon and yet very quiet in the market.

2. Evil Ernie #1

First appearances by both Evil Ernie and Lady Death.  Over 30 years old but still on collectors' radar. This book is hard to find out there.

3. Care Bears #7

That border makes this book part of a subset but good luck finding one that will not be over the FMV. What is shocking is those prices still are well below what these books are worth on the market to desperate completists.

4. Action Comics #340

First Appearance of Parasite.  Superman's villains never ever will reach the value of Batman's lineup. That is the only reason this book is so undervalued.

5. Air Pirate Funnies #1

Disney did not appreciate how their characters were used in these books. Think R-Rated stuff.  Disney spent millions  to stop these books from going to print to no avail.  This is a hidden piece of history that  very few people even know exist.

6. Star Wars #43

1st appearance of Lando Calrissian. Explain to me why new Star Wars first appearances sell for big bucks in top grades and yet this issue can be purchased for roughly the same price?  Lando > Doctor Aphra!!!

7. All-Star Western #10

Jonah Hex is a great character.  Sadly the DC Comics+ Western formula makes this a book that is ignored by so many fans.  CGC census has less than 800 copies so if you find one buy it!!!

8. Swamp Thing #7

Swamp Thing meets Batman!  Classic cover and yet often forgotten.  Batman does not require only normal heroes in his movies people.  Imagine the creativity that could play out on the screen with these two characters. You cannot go wrong with a Wrightson/Wein team up either.

9. Justice League of America #75

Black Canary is such a cool character.  The first appearance of the modern version is so  ignored by both collectors and investors.  That should not be the case when fans went nuts over the Huntress' first appearance a few years back. Many JLA books could also appear on this list.

10. Blackhawk #133

1st appearance of Lady Blackhawk.  Appeals to war comics, female heroes, and DC Comic fans.  Try to find one cheap and you will be surprised how hard that task is right now. Now imagine that a few years from now.

This book does not come up for sale often and when it does it creates bidding wars.  I know because I saw one at a convention and even though I thought I made a solid offer it was not solid enough.  Think FMV times 2.

The greatest gift we can receive is to have the chance, just once in our lives, to make a difference. Do you understand how many times you made a difference? Enough for a hundred lifetimes.”

– Doctor Strange speaking to Peter Parker.
