Top 10 Betty and Veronica Covers

(This article originally published on Shortboxed)

79 years ago a young man showed up in Pep Comics #22 wanting to be called “Chick.” You know him as Archie Andrews. Hailed as the typical teenager, Archie almost immediately began chasing after Betty Cooper, a young, blonde-haired beauty…until Veronica Lodge came along a few issues later (Pep 26). During those 79 years, Betty and Veronica have bounced back and forth as Archie’s love interests producing numerous love triangle stories and amazing covers from artists like Bob Montana, Harry Lucey, and Dan DeCarlo. This top 10 list celebrates the best of those covers. I will admit that these are MY favorite covers, but one will be hard-pressed to find covers that top them.

10. Betty and Me #37

A great example of the love triangle theme illustrated by the great Dan DeCarlo.

9. Archie's Rival Reggie #9

There are so many covers with Veronica in a red dress that are just stunning. This is one of the best. And it’s a reverse love triangle image with Veronica dealing with 2 suitors.

8. Archie's Girls Betty and Veronica #41

A stunning image that shows off the figures of our 2 leading ladies by Harry Lucey.

7. Archie Comics #35

I’m not a big fan of Bill Vigoda, but this is one of his best images of Veronica.

6. Archie Annual #4

A huge fan favorite through the years, Bob Montana nailed the love triangle tension between the 3 in this iconic cover.

5. Pep Comics #73

One of the sweetest and sexiest images of Betty on a cover anywhere by Bob Montana.

4. Pep Comics #77

Va-va-voom! Probably the BEST cover of Veronica in a red dress anywhere.

3. Archie Comics #68

My favorite cover of them all. Just a classic cover of the 3 that never gets old.

2. Archie's Girls Betty and Veronica #40

This cover has taken a meteoric rise in the last several years and is one of the BEST by Harry Lucey.

1. Archie Comics #50

Betty rarely gets to be the sultry seductress on the covers. In this classic cover by Montana, the focus is totally on her and we all get the point!

There you have it! The top 10 Betty and Veronica covers, a beautiful list to behold for sure.
