So far, you have had the opportunity to win some great pieces and today is no different! Let's learn a little more about Bunky Brothers first.

Who is Bunky Brothers Comics?

Bunky Brothers buys, sells, and trades all types of comics and toys. Buying and selling most all Golden Age, Silver Age, and Bronze Age comic books. They also buy and sell all Star Wars, Walking Dead, and other vintage toys. They are located in California and have made their hobby into a functioning business! It all started with three brothers and a love for comics.

If you want to check out their website you can do so here. The best place to check out their inventory is their eBay store so you can check that out here.

Bunky Brothers Personal Look at Collecting

Other than the Golden Age lovelies, the brothers have learned their lessons from trying to take on overly daunting tasks. At one point they had a goal of collecting every single Spider-Man comic in high grade... Do you know how many of those there are? A quick Google search says there are more than 1,000. It got to the point where they started to lose interest. They would be spending hundreds of dollars on an issue they didn't like simply because it was a Spider-Man comic. There is a happy medium - and that's niche collecting.

Figure out what "turns you on" and collect that. A couple of fellow bloggers talked about Negative Space collecting and Bubble Gum Collecting. Do you have a niche collecting style? Let us know! As for the Bunkys, they decided to collect ONLY comics that meant something to them. A fond memory, a cool cover, or a favorite artist. By refining the goals of the collection, FUN was reintroduced. any publisher or character first into this new matrix, as long as the brothers feel it's special.

When you take on the task of collecting something that you don't have enough passion for, there is a possibility of losing interest and deciding to walk away from the hobby. If you figure out what you love and collect that you will love the hobby more and more each day.

Don't be afraid to evaluate your collecting goals

We've all seen it. 9.8 or nothing. Bunky Brothers specialize in Golden Age comics, so the modern 9.8 or nothing craze tends to rub them a bit weird. There is something about these Golden Age comics that were meant to be read and discarded that have stood the test of time and still exist today. The fact that these little books have exited that long holds so much more value to the Bunky Brothers than the comic that came out recently with a new character.

You can get a Golden Age comic like Batman #15 (up to a 7.5) or Crime SuspenStories #22 (Up to a 6.0) for less than a modern comic like Amazing Spider-Man #300 where a 9.8 sells for $4,400. I know. If you compared a 9.8 GOLDEN comic to a modern the prices would be MUCH higher but here's the part that's confusing. Those lower graded Goldens have a much lower quantity of availability than those of the Modern Age. For example, there are only 311 of Crime SuspenStories #22 in the CGC Census and 178 of the Batman #17 whereas there are 25,568 ASM 300s (1,348 copies of 9.8's alone).

While speculation is something most comic lovers thrive on, it can be very easy to fall into that pit of only looking for the highest graded thing and seeing even a 9.6 and thinking "it's only a 9.6." If it's something you love, who cares about the grade as long as you own it - right? If you are collecting for investment - that's a different story. But if you are collecting for the love and joy of collecting are you collecting what you really love?
