It was a notable week in auctions and collecting! The vaulted Promise Collection sets a multi-million dollar world record while Prince's handwritten lyrics for "Nothing Compares to You" hauls in over $150k.

PROMISE COLLECTION NETS OVER $22 MILLION:

Heritage Auctions put up the first 300 books from the much-talked-about Promise Collection for auction June 17-19, and the results were outstanding. At closing, a world record had been set. Several books realized prices high enough to make collectors take notice, but as a whole, the books from this collection brought in a staggering $22.4 million dollars.

Previously, Heritage's best auction takings had hit the $16.5-million mark, but that number has been definitively topped by almost $6 million after this auction's closing. Nearly 5,800 bidders from around the globe participated in the market-resetting auction, an impressive number by itself.

Heritage Auctions Vice President Barry Sandoval says, “I remember when we were thrilled to have $15 million in comic and comic art sales for an entire year, and this was more than $22 million in just three days.”

The next wave of Promise Collection books will reach the auction block toward the end of August 2021. Read more!
