There was a baseball team located in Brooklyn, New York since 1883. The squad, mostly known as the Dodgers, shockingly moved to Los Angeles in 1958. Many New York-based fans, including my Father, never forgave them. But the Dodgers have made the most of it, remaining one of the Major League's most notable franchises.

The Dodgers have also featured some of the game's most renowned players. Below is a list of rookie cards for some of the most prominent players and figures since the franchise's big move.

Tommy Lasorda 1954 Topps

Tommy Lasorda, a lefty pitcher from Pennsylvania, made his debut for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1954. His pitching career didn't really pan out, as it only lasted 3 seasons. His managerial career was a different story. Lasorda skipped the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1976 through 1996. In that time, the Dodgers would win 2 World Series Championships. Lasorda was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1997.

Lasorda's rookie card came in the legendary 1954 Topps set that also featured the first-year cards of Hank Aaron, Ernie Banks, and Al Kaline. The Lasorda rookie sells for around $800 in a PSA 8.

Maury Wills 1963 Fleer

The Dodgers initially signed Maury Willis in 1950 when the team was based in Brooklyn. He would not make the majors until 1959 when the team was in LA. The shortstop would soon be making a major impact with his world-class speed leading the National League in stolen bases for 6 consecutive seasons.

Winning 3 World Series titles with the Dodgers, Wills had his best year in 1962 when he won the National League MVP Award. A 7-time All-Star, Wills' best rookie is his 1963 Fleer which sells for $500 in a PSA 9.

Steve Garvey 1971 Topps

Few players are more synonymous with the Los Angeles Dodgers than Steve Garvey. Telegenic and charming, Garvey was pasted all over billboards and ad campaigns in the LA area. The first baseman had the talent to back up all the hype. Garvey won the 1974 NL MVP Award and appeared in 10 All-Star games.

Garvey finished up his career with the San Diego Padres after spending 13 seasons in LA. He was not elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame but is still a fondly remembered player for the Dodgers. Garvey's 1971 Topps rookie card sells for $450 in PSA 8 condition.

Orel Hershiser 1985 Topps

Orel Hershiser first pitched in the big leagues for the Dodgers in 1983. By 1985, he had become a star, registering a 19-3 record. In 1988, the righty put forth one of the great seasons in Major League history. That season saw him put together a record 59 consecutive scoreless innings streak, win the NL Cy Young Award and lead the Dodgers to a World Series title.

While Hershiser pitched for a few different teams at the end of his career, he will always be remembered as a Dodger. His 1985 Topps Rookie card sells for $150 in PSA 10 condition.

Clayton Kershaw 2008 Topps Update

The Dodgers selected Clayton Kershaw with the 7th overall selection of the 2006 Draft. Despite his young age, Kershaw zoomed through the minors and first made the majors at 20 years old. He's consistently been one of the best pitchers in the league.

A 3 time Cy Young Award winner, a 9-time All-Star and a World Series champion, Kershaw is likely to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer as soon as he calls it a career. The lefty's 2008 Topps Update card is among his most popular issues. The card sells for around $900 in PSA 10 condition.
