There is a passage in Donald F. Glut's original novelization of The Empire Strikes Back that introduces the bounty hunter, Boba Fett. Glut wrote, "A human bounty hunter, Boba Fett was known for his extremely ruthless methods. He was dressed in a weapons covered, armored spacesuit, the kind worn by a group of evil warriors defeated by the Jedi Knights during the Clone Wars."
This, combined with Joe Johnston's intriguing design, was pure imagination fuel for many fans who wondered who these warriors were and what happened between them and the Jedi.
