Fellow Spawn fans, our dreams of a new movie aren't looking too bright, and Todd McFarlane sounds like he's on the verge of quitting the project altogether. Still, don't give up on your Spawn keys.

McFarlane has been promising an R-rated, mature Spawn movie for years. In 2017, he announced a partnership with horror experts Blumhouse, then we found out that Jamie Foxx and Jeremy Renner were all set to star in the McFarlane written and directed adaptation. Now the word is that the entire project may be going to the scrap heap. In fact, McFarlane has been quoted as saying that he's ready to walk away from the movie as reported by Slash Films.

Will we ever get that long-rumored Spawn reboot? Who knows? And while that may make it tempting to abandon ship and dump your Spawn keys, don't do that just yet. In fact, here are six you'll want to watch.

SPAWN #185

This one is prized because it was recalled. Apparently McFarlane's headless cover (which commemorated Al Simmons committing suicide via magic blast to the face) was not appreciated by distributors, and it was pulled from shelves. While the recalled headless variant is the most popular cover to have, even the standard edition brings respectable prices; earlier this year, a 9.8 brought $100 and a 9.6 sold for $150 just last month.

SPAWN #1

You can't mention Spawn keys without talking about his first appearance in Spawn #1. Since McFarlane made the Blumhouse announcement, this has been the issue to collect, especially if you're lucky enough to have the newsstand edition. However, most of us have the direct edition, which still has decent figures. Last year, a 9.8 averaged $118, and it currently has a 90-day fair market value of $104.

SPAWN #1 DIRECTOR'S CUT

Even the reprint Spawn #1 Director's Cut has been on the rise, earning a $60 FMV for a 9.8. Even better is the second print, which has a current FMV of $100 and sold for $80 earlier this year. There's also the 25th Anniversary variant cover for the Director's Cut, which sold for $45 in March.

SPAWN BIBLE #1

The 1996 Spawn Bible easily flies under the radar of collectible comics. Over the past four years, it has become more sought out. Way back in 2015, a 9.8 earned $130. Two years ago, one sold for $150, although another copy sold for as low as $23 that same year. However, that is proving to be an outlier as the last copy sold in October 2018 for $100.

SPAWN THX

Although not as coveted as it was in 2017, the dealer-incentive Thank You issue is still selling in the $200 range. However, it's a far cry from two years ago when a 9.8 could sell for as much as $500. Last year, it peaked at $340, and it's already reached as high as $230 in 2019.

SPAWN #9

The first appearance of Angela, this issue has been the source of controversy and a law suit over character rights between McFarlane and writer Neil Gaiman. The comic has been gaining popularity since Gaiman sold the rights to Marvel. Since then, she has been included in the Thor mythos and is part of the Asgardians of the Galaxy, which was name dropped in Avengers: Endgame. That has raised prices for Spawn #9, and a 9.8 direct edition has sold 70 times this year for as much as $125.
