One of the best genres in comics is Good Girl Art. The name refers to comic book covers that depict attractive women -- sometimes in some sort of restraint, or just lounging around at home. Artists of the era such as Matt Baker, Bob Montana, and Dan DeCarlo are just three of the great artists who had GGA down to a science. In this month's Showcase Auction, Heritage is focusing on Good Girl Art. Here are my top comic picks from this auction.

Patsy Walker #26

Painted covers are one of my favorite types of covers. They add something special to a comic and are fun to collect since most comic books don't use painted covers. This cover for Patsy Walker #26 was done by Louise Altson, who would go on to have a very prolific career in art. This auction features several of her books, tho my favorite has to be this one. Comics from this era give us a unique look at daily life back then.

This ungraded book is being noted as in Fine+ condition. The last time a blue label CGC 6.0 was in May of 2020 for $319. Prices aren't very strong on this book, so this could be a great, affordable collector for the right buyer.

Cindy Comics #37

Cindy Comics #37 might be a book new collectors may overlook. This grey-tone cover has Cindy in a classic pinup pose, while her beau looks on in bewilderment. There's so much to love about this book, including the Marvel Comic stamp, despite the company being under the Timely Comics name at the time. I guess it was a bit of foreshadowing! Currently, CGC has 27 of these graded, with the highest grade sitting at a blue label 8.0.

This CGC blue label 6.0 has Off-White pages, a minor amount of glue on the cover, and someone did write on the cover. That all aside, this book still presents exceptionally well. The last time a 6.0 example sold was in November of 2019 for $4,200. In March of 2022, a blue label 6.5 sold for $2,100 -- so this book could potentially fall short of the 2019 sale price. This is still a worthwhile comic, and should be on your watch list!

A Date With Millie #2

Growing up Dan DeCarlo was a household name. To be he was the Archie comic book artist. His stories and art were one of the biggest parts of my childhood, and he absolutely had a hand in who I am today. But before he ever drew the iconic Betty and Veronica, DeCarlo was an accomplished artist for a few other companies as well -- including Timely. His more mature work could be seen in men's magazines, in which I believe he did his best work. This copy of A Date With Millie #2 is a great example of his more "family-friendly" tone. This classic cover represents everything great about Good Girl Art.

This ungraded copy is noted as being in Good/Very Good condition, but there is moisture damage. While there is no 2.0 graded copy on the census, a 2.5 sold for $45 in February of 2020. This book could potentially go for over $100, making this a great book that's both affordable and has eye appeal.
