Top collectible magazines made some big moves and are climbing up the charts! The Hottest Magazines is a curated list of the magazines moving up the eBay sales lists. GoCollect pulls the stats straight from eBay and sorts them by volume moving in the marketplace over the past 30 days.
4. Sports Illustrated #V1 #1 (-)
The granddaddy of all sports magazines has been holding steady in the top five for a few weeks now. Sales have been robust, with no fewer than 12 graded copies changing hands since December 1. The biggest of those sales was a 9.8 going for $2,500 in a December 17 fixed price eBay sale. That’s down a cool grand from the previous sale on November 19 for $3,500 and way down from the slashed $7,000 paid on September 7 for the premiere issue of the long-running magazine.
9. Playboy #v36 #10 (+5)
No one has graced more covers of Playboy than Pamela Anderson, who appeared on thirteen. Her first cover is the most coveted. Sales volume began picking up in late November and has continued at a high clip. Top was the $484 paid for a 9.4 in a December 20 fixed price eBay sale. The highest price ever paid was $2,500 for a 9.8 in October 2023.
11. Wizard #1 (San Diego Comic Con Edition) (+72)
Released at the 1991 San Diego Comic Con, this variant typically commands higher prices than the standard edition. It’s current ranking is based on some recent high sales, including a 9.8 going for $525 in a November 17 eBay auction and a 9.4 with Todd McFarlane’s signature, which sold for $450 in a fixed price eBay sale.
28. Time #v203 #17 (+24)
Donald Trump’s election win has driven up the prices of a number of magazines that show up on our Hottest Magazines list. The “If He Wins” issue from May 27 of last year has been climbing up the charts as we near inauguration. A 9.6 graded copy sold on December 21 for $400 in a fixed price eBay sale, topping the $364 paid for a 9.8 on November 12.
45. Analog #v75 #1 (new to the list)
The success of the Dune films has driven collectors to seek out the epic story’s first appearances in print. Earlier this year, Analog #v72 #4, the first Dune story ever published, appeared on our Hottest Magazines list. Now, it’s this issue featuring Part 3 of Prophets of Dune. Driving sales of this issue is the third overall cover appearance of Dune to grace the magazine and the first cover appearance of the iconic sandworm, or Shai-Hulud. With only 19 graded copies, sales to this point are rare. So, when two sell in one month, it’s a no-brainer as a Hottest Magazine. A 7.0 sold for $650 on December 9, setting a record. It was a bit of a disappointment when a 7.5 only reached $300 on December 24, tying the price paid for an 8.0 in April 2024. It will be interesting to see how prices fluctuate as more copies of this classic 1965 pulp are graded.
