Analyzing the Hottest Silver Age Comics of the last 30 days, we may be beginning to see a trend emerging from a highly-anticipated upcoming MCU property. Daredevil: Born Again is expected to premiere in spring 2024 on Disney+ (assuming a resolution to the WGA and SAG strikes), and smart investors are starting to invest in some of Man Without Fear's greatest books.

With the success of the dark and gritty Netflix Daredevil show, there are strong expectations. Combine that with the recent bear market and the always underrated Daredevil is seeing his value rise again. In addition to Matt Murdock, investors are looking into some class Silver Age books that have dipped in recent months.

Here are the five highest risers among Silver Age books in the past month.

X-Men #9 (+73)

It personally pains me to see this book up so high this month for a very specific reason. If you’ll allow me to share, my worst USPS experience in my long comic-collecting history happened with X-Men #9. I had a friend I met through Instagram who was selling his books for very good deals several years ago. A raw copy of this book was one of them.

I made the purchase, he sent the book, and we waited. And we waited. We both began to reach out to the post office after about two weeks of “pending” status and no book in sight. They looked and looked over the next several books, but it soon became clear they could not find the book. After about five months, we gave up and it became clear: USPS lost the book. I love this book for the historical X-Men versus Avengers battle, and it pains me to this day that I don’t have a copy.

Likely because of the historic meeting of these two iconic teams (it’s the first Avengers crossover into X-Men), this book is really holding value, even in a down market. The most recent copy of a CGC 6.5 (56th percentile) sold last month for $715. That’s $210 more than the last sale recorded just a week earlier. Most recent sales have been in the $500-$600 range, but the book was up above $800 as recently as late 2022.

Amazing Spider-Man #16 (+66)

Amazing Spider-Man #16 features the first meeting between the two best Silver Age street-level heroes and is the fourth-ever appearance of Daredevil. It also is one of just seven instances where Daredevil wears the classic yellow and red suit before he switches to the all-red version in Daredevil #7. With Charlie Cox's Daredevil already appearing alongside Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No Way Home, you can be assured this is a team-up that is likely to happen many more times in the future.

The 50th percentile in this book on the CGC census is a grade 5.5. After bottoming out around $500 for two sales earlier this summer, a copy of this book sold on eBay on August 10th for $650. This grade may not ever reach its high around $1,000 during the boom of 2021, but it is definitely on the upswing of popularity.

Silver Surfer #4 (+66)

What more can be said about one of the most iconic comic covers of all time? The angle of Thor and Silver Surfer. The action that John Buscema portrayed when he drew this memorable piece. This is a comic that has spawned countless homage covers over the years and has been a central piece in many collections since is debuted in February of 1969.

Investors are flocking to it because of the relative affordability right now compared to the past few years. The one-year average on a CGC grade 6.5 of this book is just shy of four figures at $970. But the most recent sale was for just $841 in an eBay auction. In March, three copies of this book sold in this grade for more than $1,000 according to our database. Now, it looks like you can easily get a 15%-20% discount on that issue.

Amazing Spider-Man #13 (+52)

The classic Spider-Man cover featuring the first appearance of Mysterio was drawn by the legendary Steve Ditko. The Hollywood illusionist-turned-villain has lasted from 1964 until this very day, when a female Mysterio appeared for the first time in a December 2022 issue of Spider-Man: Double Trouble. With a mysterious ending at the conclusion of Spider-Man: Far From Home in the MCU, we could easily see a reprisal of this cunning character. Not that this book needs a movie-induced boost, as it remains one of the most recognizable covers in all of Spidey's history.

This book has sold anywhere between $960 and $1,300 in 2023, but it's worth noting that the $1,300 price was its most recent sale, having just changed hands on August 16. That $1,300 is near the one-year average of $1,226, but there is still a lot of volatility built into that number. If this book dips back down below $1,000 in that grade again in the near future, I would jump on it at that price.

Daredevil #1 (+27)

Perhaps you can help me with a mystery I am trying to solve. I can not for the life of me figure out why the first appearance of Matt Murdock, the Man Without Fear, in Daredevil #1 languishes so far behind other Marvel first appearances not only in price but in popularity. It’s true that Daredevil came out in early 1964, missing the incomparable two year run of Marvel introductions from late 1961 to late 1963. But Daredevil is still a solid early Silver Age first appearance and has been on a steady climb up over the last three years. With Daredevil and Charlie Cox about to make their long-awaited starring premiere in the MCU, this is a book that still has room to explode upwards.

I own a Daredevil #1 CGC 3.5 copy, so let's look there for some inspiration as to why you should buy this book. At the beginning of 2023, there were four straight recorded sales of more than $3,000 for this book. A $2,880 sale followed in March, but both recorded sales this summer have been below $2,800. For an elite first appearance I don't have any doubt this book will rise over the years and any small dip like this presents us with a chance to buy.
