Media Release -- Archie Comics is making major news and entertainment headlines accomplishing the impossible: managing to get President Barack Obama and politics' biggest celebrity Sarah Palin to "reach across the malt-shop aisle and share a soda," as the Washington Post so aptly put it. Enjoying political headlines from the Alaska Dispatch and Anchorage Daily News to ABC, CBS, MSNBC, Fox News and everything in between, the two-part political epic "Campaign Pain" beginning December 2010 will now feature dual variant covers of the dueling politicians duking it out!
"Do not adjust your computer screen--this is, in fact, a real cover for a real Archie comic," clarified the Huffington Post in regards to Archie #616's original cover of Obama and Palin sharing a malted milkshake at Pop's.
"With mid-term elections just around the corner, the chasm between Democrats and Republicans is growing larger every hour," begins Fox News.
"But there is hope. A freckle-faced, redheaded hope," answers the Washington Post.
And though Fox mentions jovially that, "it has not yet been proven that milkshake sharing is an effective form of bipartisanship," Time magazine online declares, "Nothing says 'political cooperation' like matching sweater vests."
The variant cover for "Campaign Pain" Part 1 features a star-spangled super-Obama about to clash with the flag-striped superpowers of Sarah Palin. In midair over a fair city, the two are posed for what would guarantee to be a larger-than-life super-battle! Thank goodness The Super Teens—Archie as Pureheart the Powerful, Jughead as Captain Hero, and the rest of the super gang—are there to keep an eye on things.
Not to be outdone, "Campaign Pain" Part 2's variant cover promises the "Fight for America!" Undefeated Barack Obama, a.k.a. "The Chicago Kid," will have to face off against the golden gloves of "The Thrilla from Wasilla," Sarah Palin!
It's "Yes they can, you betcha -- in a comic book," says the New York Post
Archie #616 will arrive December 2010 and Archie #617 will arrive January 2011. Variant covers will be available upon release of the original covers through comic book shops, ArchieComics.com and everywhere else comics are sold.
