Graphic Classics Volume SeventeenMedia Release -- Science Fiction Classics (APR090820), the seventeenth volume of the long-running Graphic Classics series from Eureka Productions goes to stunning full-color, with comics adaptations of stories from the original creators of science fiction.

Featured is H.G. Wells The War of the Worlds, adapted by Alex Burrows, and illustrated, in his Graphic Classics debut, by Micah Farritor. Wells story has been diluted through many movie and comics adaptations over the years, but Burrows returns to the themes of the original, brought to vivid life by Farritors stylish drawings and earthy palette.

Also featured are A Martian Odyssey by Stanley G. Weinbaum, adapted by Ben Avery and George Sellas, In the Year 2889, a rare short story by Jules Verne, hilariously illustrated by Johnny Ryan, and The Disintegration Machine, starring Arthur Conan Doyles Professor Challenger as imagined by Roger Langridge.

Includes E.M. Forsters only SF tale, the poignant The Machine Stops, illustrated by Graphic Classics newcomer Ellen Lindner, and shorts by Lord Dunsany and Hans Christian Anderson, with art by Brad Teare and Hunt Emerson.

Some Nice quotes:

The art in this book helps lift the old stories from Jules Verne and Arthur Conan Doyle, among others and rockets them to new levels. A great addition for all science fiction and graphic novel collections.
Kevin King, Booklist

This is a fun and easy way to revisit science fiction stories you havent read in ages, or perhaps haven't read at all. These arent dumbed down or tedious; theyre respectful of the authors original vision, but also of the modern reader. The quality is just astounding from start to finish.
Andrea Speed, ComiXtreme

Next up in the series will be Graphic Classics: Louis May Alcott, scheduled for November 2009 release. The book will feature Little Women, adapted for comics by the award-winning team of Trina Robbins and Anne Timmons.

Also included are lesser-known gothic mysteries and horror stories including A Whisper in the Dark by Antonella Caputo and Arnold Arre, The Rival Prima Donnas by Rod Lott and Molly Crabapple, and Lost in a Pyramid by Alex Burrows and Pedro Lopez.

Additionally the book features two poems and two strange childrens stories, illustrated by Mary Fleener, Shary Flenniken, Toni Pawlowsky and Lisa K. Weber.
