The monthly Top 10 CGC Submissions is a curated list of comics and magazines that have been moving up CGC's grading lists. CGCData.com pulls the data straight from CGC over the past 30 days.
For the month of May 2025, we see the return of the king -- after a brief hiatus, Absolute Batman #1 (the third printing Comic Corner Edition) has returned to the No. 1 position.
And, just to shake things up this month, we've also curated a separated Top 10 list: the Top 10 CGC Silver Age submissions for last month.
Without further ado, here are the Top 10 CGC submissions during the month of May:
1. Absolute Batman #1 Third Printing Comic Corner Edition (DC, 2024);
2. Isom #3 Variant Cover (Rippaverse, 2025);
3. Star Wars: Ahsoka #5 Okazaki Variant Cover (2025, Marvel Comics)
4. Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #8 (Marvel, 1984);
5. Wolverine Limited Series #1 (Marvel, 1982)
7. Amazing Spider-Man #300 (Marvel, 1988);
8. Isom #3 Variant Cover (Rippaverse, 2025);
9. Spawn #1 (Image, 1992)
10. Uncanny X-Men #266 (1990, Marvel Comics)
The data is clear that Absolute Batman #1 has been a huge success for DC. Not only have collectors already submitted over 4,000 copies of Absolute Batman #1 (combined reprints), but it was 2024's best-selling single issue with approximately 400,000 sales (including reprints). Clearly, Scott Snyder's re-imagining of Bruce Wayne not as a billionaire, but as a working class engineer, is resonating with fans.
Even though the third printing Comic Corner Edition of Absolute Batman #1 was published only eight months ago, the FMV of a CGC 9.8s is already $100. The latest sale for a 9.8 was for $110 on eBay:
Investors shipped nearly 200 copies of the Galactus Trilogy to CGC in May.
Due to larger print runs, it's not surprising that Copper and Modern Age books typically dominate the Top 10 during most months. We'll need to dig deeper if we want to see which Silver Age comics are most commonly shipped to CGC for slabbing.
The first Silver Age book doesn't show up in May until No. 52.
1. X-Men #50 (Marvel, 1968) (52nd overall);
2. Fantastic Four #49 (Marvel, 1966) (71st overall);
3. Iron Man #1 (Marvel, 1968) (72nd overall);
4. Fantastic Four #48 (Marvel, 1966) (73rd overall);
5. Amazing Spider-Man #50 (Marvel, 1967) (82nd overall);
6. Fantastic Four #50 (Marvel, 1966) (86th overall);
7. Fantastic Four #52 (Marvel, 1966) (97th overall);
8. Silver Surfer #1 (Marvel, 1968) (102nd overall);
9. Avengers #57 (Marvel, 1968) (116th overall); and
10. Amazing-Spider-Man #41 (Marvel, 1966) (120th overall).
Looking at the Silver Age, we see that Marvel still dominates CGC submissions with ten out of the Top 10 published by Marvel. Among the Silver Age Top 10, we could be observing the impact that the upcoming Fantastic Four: First Steps is having on the comic book market. Five of the Top 10 are Fantastic Four issues and four are related to Galactus and the Silver Surfer. We're also seeing a similar trend in favor of the Silver Surfer in GoCollect's Hottest Comics.
