Welcome back to this week's look at Heritage's Sunday night movie poster auction! Every week Heritage auctions off some truly unique finds across all movie genres, such as movie serials, animation, science fiction, romance, and more. Each week I find a few gems that could be overlooked! Here are my pics for this week's unique finds!

Fantastic Four: Floating City Black Light Poster

These 1971 Fantastic Four Third Eye black light posters are incredible. This line of posters is nothing short of impressive, with bold colors and beautiful line work. Currently, Heritage has a number of Marvel posters from this line, making it hard to pick a favorite! These made a comeback in recent years thanks to a 2021 calendar collection, but nothing beats the originals!

If you're looking for more of these groovy goods to add to your collection, there's also this stunning Silver Surfer poster, this next level Astral Thor poster, and so much more. These do not come up to sale very often on Heritage, so if these have been on your want list, now is the time to (hopefully) buy!

Gremlins 2: The New Batch & Other Posters

Six years after Gremlins - most notably Gizmo - charmed their way into our hearts, Greminline 2 was released in the summer of 1990. Gremlins 2 relied more on the comedy aspect than horror, but this is still an enjoyable sequel. Many critics felt it was better than the original, but as with any movie I would leave that up to the viewer. There have been talks of a third Gremlins movie, but at this time no such sequel has materialized. However, there is an animated series Gremline: Secrets of the Mogwai which made its debut in 2023.

Also included in this lot are two folded one sheets. Yor, the Hunter from the Future, as well as Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger. This would be a fantastic lot for vintage poster collectors. Heritage notes that these posters are unrestored with varying degrees of wear, but are in overall Very Fine - condition.

The Little Mermaid (1978)

A decade before Ariel sang 'Part of Your World', Toei Animated released Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid. This more faithful retelling features stunning hand drawn art, and a sad, but beautiful story. For many people this was their first introduction to anime. This has been released several times in North America, but only the original Video Gems VHS release in 1978, as well as the Discotek Media DVD and Blu Ray, contain the full unedited movie. Many people believe that the Toei film did influence the Disney version - and while that may be partially true - Walt Disney himself had wanted to adapt The Little Mermaid decades prior. It is unfair to pit the two against each other. Both versions are fantastic in their own right. And at the end of the day, the Disney Little Mermaid brought in the Disney Renaissance.

This unrestored poster is noted as being in Very Fine - condition with obvious crease wear. However, this is a novel piece of anime history in North America. This movie, and poster, were released long before the anime boom of the 1990s, and deserves to be recognized more for paving the way for anime in the west.
