Hottest Comics

Each week, GoCollect updates its Hottest Comics List. We know which ones jumped the most. So, now it's time to speculate on why.

Before we jump in, I want to explain what this list is. It's not the top valued or even the highest FMV. It's created by tracking the number of graded comics. The more that get sold, the higher in the list it goes. So when I talk about the biggest movers and losers - I'm referring to the ones that have jumped up the list the most (movers) and the ones that dropped the most (losers) within the top 100 spots. First, let's talk about the overall top 10 Hottest Comics. If you like this, check out last week's.

Hottest Comics Top 10

The * notes those that weren't in the top ten last week. The biggest mover in the top 10 was Young Avengers #1 which climbed up 23112 places to land in the 5th spot.

Hottest Comics Biggest Movers

Oblivious Song

Seems like I'm having Deja-vu... Wasn't Oblivion Song on last week? AH! That's because this week, it's Oblivion Song #1 (Pink Lorenzo Signature Variant) This issue has climbed this list 948 spots to land in spot 52 - just one spot ahead of the original Oblivion Song #1 (which also moved up this week again, just 20 spots this time). Seven copies have sold this past week - 6 of those were all the same day. It sold for the highest as a9.8 for $145 off of eBay as a fixed price. This is interesting as the FMV is currently at $110 for a 9.8. Note that I'm looking at sales data that have been completed - not active listings on eBay. There are currently 443 copies on the CGC census - 400 of those are 9.8.

This variant came from the Skybound Comics' booth at the Wondercon Comic Convention back in 2018. It was part of an incentive to purchase items through them. Anyone who purchased $25 or more, got this variant. I couldn't find much more on this one. Similar to last week - rumors of a movie that might be coming - but that's about it. Let me know what you're thinking!

Silver Surfer

Silver Surfer #1 is in our second spot moving up 929 places. 5 have sold this past week, compared to the 3 before that and 1 before that. The most impressive sale was a 9.8 that sold for $149.99 as a fixed price on eBay. Which is just over the current estimated FMV of $130. There are current 869 copies on the CGC census with 350 of those being 9.8. All of the values with enough data to track have increased, except for 9.8 which declined by 30.5%.

Marvel has announced new comics that are coming out in October 2020. Among the line up is Fantastic Four #25. Here is what it has to say: "This issue has it all: New artist! New villains! New uniforms! And a new, major, permanent status quo change for Marvel’s First Family! All this and an appearance by DOCTOR DOOM! One of the most important characters in the entire cosmos…returns from the dead! And a major turning point in the history of the FANTASTIC FOUR! Great entry point for readers!"

This has started quite a bit of speculating on if we will see the Silver Surfer returning as well. What do you think?

Spider-Man

Amazing Spider-Man #13 is up next! It moved up 918 spots. Six have sold this past week whereas in previous weeks 2-3 sell. The highest issue that sold was an 8.0 that sold for $2,725 on eBay as a fixed price. That is over the current estimated FMV of $2,300. There are currently 2,500 copies of this book on the CGC Census. 4.0 is going to be the most common with 237. This book did come out in 1964, so it's no surprise that they are selling for high dollar and for lower grades. It's also the first appearance of Mysterio! So it's a wonderful book to see on this list.

More and more speculation over Spider-Man 3! If you thought there was any other reason... I don't think so. I found this article that explains that some rumors may be confirmed. Certain people have been whispering about this new movie. Specifically about the possibility of seeing Mysterio working with Norman Osborn. We will have to wait until December 17, 2020 to find out for sure, but it is exciting news!

Fantastic Four Annuals

Fantastic Four Annuals #6 is next! This book climbed up 652 spots this week. 2,022 books are in the CGC Census. 8.5 is the most common grade with 213 copies. A 7.5 sold last week for $500, $75 over the estimated FMV of $425. Of the 12 grades that have enough data to track, 9 have increased. Most notably, 9.0 increased by 62.9%. the biggest decline was 9.3% for 8.5.

So what's so special about FFA #6? Other than the obvious. I believe it all links up with the Silver Surfer news. With a new Fantastic Four coming out with new costumes and everything, there has been speculation across the board. But also, FFA #6 is the first appearance of Fraklin Richards. There are rumors that he will be getting an MCU debut soon.

Avengers

Avengers #55 is the last of the movers this week. It moved up (in comparison) a measly 583 spots. 7 have sold this past week compared to the 2 the week prior. The highest sold version was a 9.4 for $400 off of eBay, which is exactly what the FMV is. Of the 15 grades with data to analyze, 8 have increased - making it a bit of a mixed bag.

Honestly - I can't find much past the overall Marvel specs on the Avengers. So I'm going to leave this one open. Let me know in the comments what you are hearing out there. What do you think makes this issue so special now. Why did it jump 583 spots?
