A Stan Lee autographed CGC Signature Series 5.0 copy of Fantastic Four #5 – featuring the first appearance of the iconic villain Dr. Doom – is open for bidding in PWCC’s weekly auction.

This copy is one of twelve examples ever given a CGC 5.0, putting it in the top 27 percent of all Fantastic Four #5 Signature Series issues.

Released on April 10,1962, this fifth installment of the Fantastic Four series features an action-packed five-part adventure that introduces audiences to the infamous Dr. Doom and sends the Marvel heroes back in time. After taking Sue Storm hostage, Dr. Doom orders Richards, Ben Grimm, and Johnny Storm into his time machine to recover Blackbird’s treasure chest. The trio cleverly leave the treasure behind and bring back just the empty chest sending Doom into a rage.

This issue teases the release of The Incredible Hulk #1 when Johnny Storm is seen reading the brand-new comic on the second page. And the “Letter to the Editor” included in this issue happens to be written by Roy Thomas who would become Marvel’s Editor-In-Chief in 1972.

Fantastic Four #5 is written by Stan Lee, who signed the cover of this issue, with art by Jack Kirby and ink by Joe Sinnott, his debut in the series.

Bidding for this Silver Age gem is open until 7 p.m. PT on Sunday, March 26. The high bid currently sits at $3,000.
