The latest round of Fantasy Investing draws to a close, and I’m crossing my fingers that the Temple of Tuck ended on a high note.

THE FINAL WEEK

Good fantasy investing games never die; they just fade away.

Or something like that.

Actually, Fantasy Investing isn’t dying or fading away, but we are changing the format for a few weeks. Starting next week, the expert team at GoCollect will put their imaginary dollars on the line to see who’s got the collecting prowess to stand head-and-shoulders above the competition in a tournament format. The rules will remain the same, with each of us beginning the round with a budget of $3,000. The objective will be to see who can walk away with the biggest profits using the current fair market values calculated by GoCollect.

GoCollect members, you are welcome to play along, but we’ll be spotlighting the tournament for these upcoming weeks before transitioning back to the previous format. After the latest round of Fantasy Investing, I will appreciate all your prayers and support because it has been a rough last few weeks for the Temple.

THE OFFICIAL GOCOLLECT NO-PRIZESub-Mariner 1 created by Bill Everett

As we conclude the first round of our weekly Fantasy Investing game, I hereby present the title of reigning Fantasy Investing champion to Ilya. Week after week, this member was on fire. For a time, I was keeping up, but then Ilya’s picks kicked into another gear and left the competition in the dust. Ilya from OWC ends the round with a final budget of $8,620 after we started the game with $3,000 each.

From GoCollect to Ilya, I present the official GoCollect No-Prize. Feel free to display it proudly wherever you may like.

THE TEMPLE PICKS

That pain I’m feeling isn’t sunburn or a wasp sting; it’s the bitter sting of defeat. For the finale of the first weekly round of picks, I somehow managed to break even. My investment in Enchantress produced nothing, which is better than a loss, I suppose. The real impact came from dips in fair market value for Sub-Mariner #1 and Thor #372, though I stand behind my logic behind those picks.

Looking back, it was the long-term gambles that didn’t pay off for me. From one week to the next, I invested heavily in the current hot comics, like Hardcore and Bitter Root. The trouble was, the graded sales weren’t rolling in quick enough to get calculated into the current FMVs. Those didn’t lose any money, but they didn’t make progress, either, and I could have put that money to use somewhere else.

In the end, I finished the game with a budget of $3,640, so I did profit over $600 compared to when we started. Here’s how each of the investments panned out.
