For decades, fans of all ages have been playing video games. From Atari to PlayStation, there’s certainly a video game for every collector! With graded games, collectors can take their collections to the next level. Heritage holds a Mini-Boss Select auction weekly, featuring some fine examples of collectible video games.
Cool World CGC Universal 7.5
After the success of Who Framed Roger Rabbit, director Relph Bakshi wanted to dive into the hybrid animation and live action world. So, in the summer of 1992, Cool World hit theaters. Despite the team's best efforts, the movie was a box office dud. It has since become a cult classic, but before the movie's release, it was clear that Bakshi and the movie's production company - Paramount - assumed it would be a hit. Paramount paid the city of Los Angeles a large sum of money to put a giant Holli Would (the animated femme fatale of the film) on the iconic Hollywood sign and had a handful of movie tie-ins.
The Cool World video game for the NES is a fairly standard single-player action game from Ocean. The graphics are vivid and colorful, but the game itself is lackluster. The best part of the game is the box art, which features Holli Would front and center. Cool World was also released for the Gameboy and the Super Nintendo, but due to poor sales, the game had a short shelf life.
This CGC Universal 7.5 is sealed and presents well. While it's not the highest grade, I wouldn't overlook it. There isn't much data on this game for the collectors market, but I would expect this to go for only a few hundred dollars.
Grand Theft Auto WATA 8.5
When Grand Theft Auto was first released, no one knew that this open-world action game would become one of the most recognized franchises in video game history. Yet, despite the game's now iconic status, GTA received mixed reviews on its release. The controls and graphics were not up to par, but that didn't stop consumers from buying the game in droves. By November of 1998, a year after its initial release, the game sold over one million units. GTA would get two expansion packs shortly after its release, and in 1999, GTA II was released.
Currently, fans are waiting for the release of GTA VI. Due to how long it has taken Rockstar Games to release the highly anticipated title, a meme was born. Anytime something unexpected happens, a common reaction is "Damn, we got <insert world event here> before GTA VI." So damn, we got a John Cena heel turn before GTA VI.
This WATA CIB 8.5 is a beautiful copy. While it isn't sealed, this is still a great piece for collectors. According to our database, a 7.5 copy last sold in January of 2023 for $1,800. Rockstar insists that GTA VI will be released this year, so it's possible that copies of GTA will increase in value.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Employee Promotional Jacket
We can all likely agree that Ocarina of Time was one of the best games released for the Nintendo 64 and is still highly regarded to this day. By the year 2000, over 7 million units had been sold worldwide. Ocarina of Time won several awards, was acclaimed by virtually everyone who played it, and was re-released and updated for the Nintendo 3DS. The game's impact on the industry as a whole can not be understated - Ocarina of Time deserves every ounce of praise it gets.
Promotional materials for Ocarina of Time (and for most vintage games) can fetch high dollar amounts. There is a similar jacket on eBay that is currently listed for $600, but until this auction ends, we won't know a realized price. Heritage notes this jacket is a one size fits all and is in Very Fine+ condition.
