A World Cup star, a Creepy comic mag, and a historic look at the evil of the Nazis were among the magazines making big moves. The Hottest Magazines is a curated list of the magazines moving up eBay and auction sales lists. GoCollect pulls the stats straight from eBay and auction houses, and sorts them by volume moving in the marketplace over the past 30 days.

5. Sports Illustrated #v133 #11 (+25)

Kylian Mbappé, dynamic striker for France in World Cup competition, star forward of Real Madrid, and one of the biggest soccer stars in the world graces the cover of this December 2022 issue. Seven graded copies sold in September, including a 9.8 that went for $250 in a September 20 fixed price eBay sale. It’s the third highest price paid for a copy. The highest was a 9.9 – the sole copy in that grade out of 121 graded copies. That one sold for $5,197 in a June 2024 Goldin auction.

10. Slam #252 (Clark Variant) (+78)

Despite injury keeping her out of the playoffs, Indian Fever guard Caitlin Clark continues to be a star among sports magazine collectors. This issue – a preview of the 2024/2025 WNBA season – saw seven sales since a 9.8 changed hands for $250 in a September 11 fixed price eBay sale. The highest price paid for Clark’s first Slam cover as a pro was $610 in a June 19 Goldin auction.

14. Creepy #1 (New to the list!)

The first of Warren’s comic magazines, published in 1964, flew up the chart based on seven sales since an 8.0 sold for $270 in a September 11 fixed price eBay sale. A perennial favorite of horror fans, there are a whopping 733 graded copies in the CGC census. The series was quickly followed by sister publication Eerie, which also has issues moving up the chart. The record setter for this issue is a 9.6 graded copy that sold for $2,990 in a 2005 Heritage auction. Keep in mind that there is a lone 9.8 at the top of the census that hasn’t sold since 2015.

33. Sport #v7 #3 (New to the list!)

Sport, a monthly magazine that pre-dated Sports Illustrated by eight years, was at one time so influential that their World Series Most Valuable Player Award was adopted by MLB and continues to be awarded to this day. This issue features Yankee all-time great Joe DiMaggio, and moves up the chart based on three sales. This includes a surprising record setter. A 4.5 graded copy sold for $121 in an October 8 fixed price eBay sale. Despite a healthy census count of 52 graded copies, only five have sold to date. There are four top-of-census 9.2 graded copies that should fetch a decent amount if they ever come up for sale. Clearly, collectors are looking to hold their copies for now.

97. The March of Evil #nn (New to the list!)

Published by F.F.F. Publishers in 1945, this magazine was designed to illustrate the sheer evil of Nazi atrocities to the general public, including photos of concentration camps. It’s considered historically significant enough to be included in the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum’s rare book collection. There are only seven graded copies, but a 6.0 sold in a September 13 Heritage auction for $1,440. It was just the second sale. The previous sale was the exact same graded copy going for $1,680 in a November 2024 Heritage auction. There are two other 6.0 graded copies at the top of the CGC census that have yet to come up for sale. While it’s a drop in value, there is no doubt that this is a rare magazine of historical importance.
