PSA's comic book Population Report is finally here!
Ever since PSA began accepting comic books for grading in July 2025, comic book collectors have been eagerly anticipating the publishing of its comic book Population Report. After all, PSA had built its reputation as a credible grader and authenticator of sports and trading cards partly through its use of data and transparency. Its population reports and certification database (a searchable record of every item that PSA has ever graded) are two reasons why sports and trading card collectors trust PSA.
While there isn't too much in the Population Report yet, there will eventually be a goldmine of data here for comic book collectors. During the past six months, PSA has already graded over 12,000 comic books (in comparison, CGC has graded over seven million comics). PSA also launched their Magazine Population Report as well, which exists side-by-side with the comics tab. We'll cover the rising population of magazines in another article coming very soon.
I've just started digging into the data, According to my research, below are the top 10 comics that have been submitted to PSA so far. There are some surprises in the list especially at the very top.
FYI, I didn't aggregate PSA graded copies across multiple variants for a single issue. For example, even though PSA has graded 68 copies of the first printing of Absolute Batman #1, those 68 copies were spread across eight different variants. Cover A was graded the most often with 14 copies, but not enough to make the top 10. I made one exception for Spawn #1 since it appears that PSA recognizes a "Direct Interior Logo Error" variant that I don't think CGC recognizes. I also didn't include more than one variant for the Kith-published Marvel vs. Capcom #1. Believe it or not, if I did, those variants would take up almost the entire top 10!
1. Marvel vs. Capcom #1 (published by Kith), Blue Captain America vs. Guile Variant (813 PSA graded copies): 813 graded copies;
2. Spawn #1, Direct Edition: 56 graded copies (including 30 Direct Interior Logo Error Variants);
3. Venom Lethal Protector #1, Direct Red Foil Edition: 49 graded copies;
4. Spider-Man #1, Silver Edition: 39 copies;
5. Spider-Man 2099 #1, Direct Edition: 35 copies;
6. Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #8, Direct Edition: 34 copies;
7. Amazing Spider-Man #1 SDCC Magic the Gathering Variant: 33 copies;
8. Amazing Spider-Man #300 Direct Edition: 31 copies;
9. Batman #1, Direct Edition 1st Printing: 25 copies; and
10. Wolverine #1, Direct Edition: 25 copies.
Some major key issues that narrowly missed the cut include: Incredible Hulk #340 Direct Edition (24 copies); Uncanny X-Men #266 Direct Edition (22 copies); Star Wars #1 Newsstand Edition (20 copies); and Amazing Spider-Man #252 Newsstand Edition (19 copies).
Many of the issues listed above are no surprise and generally mirror the most commonly submitted books to CGC. The Kith Brand-published Marvel vs. Capcom #1, however, is definitely the biggest surprise in the entire PSA Comic Population Report. PSA has already graded 3,699 copies of Marvel vs. Capcom #1 published by Kith, a fashion and lifestyle brand. In 2025, Kith partnered with Marvel, Capcom, and ASICS to produce specialized ASICS footwear that was bundled with PSA-graded comics. Here's an example of a bundle with a PSA 10 Iron Man and Mega Man comic:
Among the many variants for this issue, the variant with the most graded copies is the Blue Captain America vs. Guile Variant with 813 copies. As of today, this is the most commonly graded comic on PSA's population report. The Blue Iron Man Vs. Mega Man Variant (661 copies) and Green Captain America Vs. Guile Variant Cover (479 copies) were also heavily graded. 9.8s of the various variants sell fairly frequently on eBay with sales in the $130 to $150 range.
