Many comic book creators will work in the industry writing or illustrating for decades. Todd McFarlane, outside of the occasional project, only worked regularly for around 1. In that time, however, he left an indelible mark on the hobby.

McFarlane's books never really go out of style and his characters never go away. There have been multiple movies featuring Venom and there is a Spawn reboot coming down the pike in 2025. Here are some key books featuring the work of the Canadian superstar that you can add to your collection.

Incredible Hulk #340

McFarlane began working with both DC and Marvel in the mid-80s. He was given the chance to work on iconic characters with both companies. One of his most well-remembered runs came with Peter David on The Incredible Hulk. Issue 340 featured a stunning cover with the monster's reflection in Wolverine's claws.

The book was popular when released and has only become even more sought after. In addition to McFarlane's popularity, Hulk and Wolverine also have massive fan bases. The book currently sells briskly online. A CGC 9.0 copy will sell for a bit over $200.

Batman #423

Not only did McFarlane get the opportunity to draw the Hulk, he was also given a chance with Batman. The artist was tapped to illustrate the last 3 issues of Batman: Year Two in Detective Comics. About a year later, he worked on the Batman title.

McFarlane created another incredible cover for Batman 423. The cape of the Dark Knight looks very similar to the one he would one day drape Spawn. The issue has never gone out of style. Like with Hulk 340, collectors can expect to pay a little over $200 to get their hands on a CGC 9.0 copy.

Amazing Spider-Man #300

McFarlane began illustrating The Amazing Spider-Man on issue 298. In issue 300, McFarlane and David Michelinie introduced Venom, a character that would turn the comics world on its head. And the 12-year-old kids who lusted after this book in the late 1980s and 1990s are still buying up copies today.

This issue was released when comic print runs were massive. That hasn't stopped Spider-Man 300 from remaining wildly popular. Collectors that want to spend a little extra money can grab a copy in 9.8 condition for $4,200 but a 9.0 will run for about $650.

Amazing Spider-Man #316

Spider-Man barely was able to defeat Venom when he first came onto the scene. Fans were fascinated by the new villain and desperate for more stories involving him. Venom returned to again take Spidey to the limit in Amazing Spider-Man 316 which debuted in June of 1989.

The issue is valuable as it was one of the first appearances of the still-popular anti-hero. But it has also maintained its collectibility thanks to another amazing cover from the superstar artist. The issue, in CGC 9.8 condition, runs for between $600 and $700.

Spawn #1

After his star-making work at Marvel, McFarlane was one of the creators to form Image Comics. And the flagship character of the publisher taking on the big boys was Spawn. The book was an immediate hit in the age of the speculation boom.

Like many of the other comics featured on this list, there are a massive number of copies of Spawn. But like the others, it doesn't really seem to matter with collectors, especially with the looming reboot. This is a book where many collectors will be able to opt for a 9.8 copy. An issue in that grade sells for slightly under $200.
