Generally, comics can be obtained through local comic shops (LCS) or bought digitally online. For this blog, we will focus on the physical prints of comics. Local comic shops are the main place where fans and collectors obtain their books and it has now funneled to where an individual can obtain it online. In the early days, comics used to be purchased almost exclusively on newsstands. Hence, why for the longest time collectors could obtain newsstand and direct edition copies of an issue. Newsstand editions have been essentially eliminated as times have become more modern with the rise of direction edition copies. Presently, comics are so widespread that it has become prevalent in large retail stores. One retail store where comics are having a presence is in Walmart. Below are some interesting and expensive comics someone can obtain by going into their local Walmart.

DETECTIVE COMICS: BATMAN 80TH ANNIVERSARY GIANT (WALMART)#1:

This comic is available exclusively through Walmart retailers. According to Key Collector Comics, there are a couple of reasons why this issue is worth more than its cover price. The issue celebrates the 80th year of Detective Comics in an 80-page format. There are an estimated 1,500 copies that were made to the market.  In addition, it shows reprints of the first appearances of Robin, Batgirl, and Leslie Thompkins.

Financially, if you have this issue, the book is quite pricey. Per eBay, the issue is selling around the $60-75 range in the month of August. Its most recent sale on August 25 went for $125. This is a great homage issue that is worth quite a bit of money.

VENOM FIRST HOST#3 VARIANT:

The character Venom has gained a lot of popularity lately in the last couple of series. This series introduces many characters to the Venom mythos. Per Key Collector Comics is another issue that can only be obtained from Walmart. The issue is unique in that it is a variant second printing cover art by Mark Bagley. SPIDER-VERSE#1 VARIANT:

This issue is different from the past two issues in terms of importance and price. This issue is found in Walmart exclusively. Per Key Collector Comics, it has a variant cover art by Todd Nauck and is distributed in 3-packs. The importance of this issue is it includes the first appearance of a new character. The first appearance of Spider-Zero is confirmed in this book. Any Spider-Man character always has good potential to boom and to be found only at Walmart means the print run is not very high.

Raw copies of this issue are going to cost about $30-45 dollars. Graded copies will cost much more for collectors. A CGC 9.8 copy went for $200 on 09/04/20 and the other sale for this grade went for $250 on August 5. The gamble of obtaining a raw copy and getting it graded does provide awesome financial gains for now and the future.
