As I wrote in my Hottest Comics of 2024 blog, many of the comics that make GoCollect's Hottest Comics list are perennial favorites among collectors in our community. Based upon GoCollect's data, at any given moment during any given year, you can safely bet that Marvel Super-Heroes Secret Wars #8, Spawn #1, Amazing Spider-Man #300, New Mutants #98, and Wolverine Limited Series #1 are going to be somewhere on that Top 10 Hottest Comics list. So it's a surprise when there's a newcomer to the list especially when that newcomer takes the coveted No. 1 spot on the Hottest Comics list. This past week, The Omega Men #3 is that newcomer leaping 38 spots.

We know why Lobo's first appearance has leapt to the head of the class; James Gunn recently posted on X that Jason Momoa has been cast as Lobo, a bounty hunter, and will appear in the upcoming 2026 Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow film. I loved Momoa as Aquaman; somehow, he made even Aquaman cool. But Momoa was born to play Lobo; he LOOKS like Lobo.

Fans have been taking to social media for years to fancast Momoa in the role of Lobo.

Even though The Omega Men #3 may not be a regular on GoCollect's Hottest Comics or Chartbusters lists, it's always been a key issue and significant enough in terms of value to be included in GoCollect's Copper Age CPI. It also has a great cover that prominently features Lobo riding what is an early version of his space cycle. And if James Gunn does his job, we may soon see why Stan Lee said Lobo was his favorite DC character.

Importantly, Omega Men #3 isn't just increasing in terms of sales volume, but it's also increasing in terms of sales price. As an example, let's take a closer look at the most common grade on CGC Census which is, surprisingly, a 9.8 (3,295 copies).

Right off the bat, you can see the value of a 9.8 hasn't followed the typical boom-and-then-bust pattern of most Copper Age key issues during the past five years. Sure, like most Copper Age key issues, a 9.8 of Omega Men #3 saw a surge in higher sales prices starting in mid-2020 and through 2021 during the "comic boom." But interestingly, unlike many Marvel Copper Age key issues, Omega Men #3 has done a better job of holding onto its value. And, even at its two-year low in late 2024, it never came close to correcting back to its pre-COVID prices.

And now a 9.8 has recently surged back to values it had back in late 2021 and early 2022. It's 30-day average FMV of $333 is considerably higher than its 90-day ($305) or one-year ($301) FMV averages.

Another great Lobo book to consider with an even better cover is Lobo #1. While this issue hasn't seen the price increases that Omega Men #3 has seen in recent weeks, this 9.8 copy sold for an impressive $190 on eBay on January 5th:

Are you interested in buying an Omega Men #3 now? Or is this a "come back later" in six months?
