Mister Miracle is poised to invade the mainstream, and his first appearance has been on the move as collectors prep for the New Gods especially now that Tom King has joined the production.

DC Comics has a director and screenwriter lined up for a New Gods movie, and they've tapped superstar writer Tom King to co-write the script. Considering King's recent history with the critically-acclaimed Mister Miracle series from 2017, it stands to reason that Scott Free will end up the star of the New Gods.

That being said, 1971's Mister Miracle #1, which happens to be his first appearance, is the issue to have, and many collectors have already seen the writing on the wall. Virtually every grade of Miracle #1 has been on the rise since the film was first announced last year. Most impressive has been the 9.6. Two years ago, it sold seven times for no more than $589 and averaged $498. Last year, it brought over $1,100 eight times and averaged $1,234. So far in 2019, it has sold six times and most recently went for $1,294 on May 26.

The case with the 9.6 is similar to the other grades. Almost every grade has been leaping in fair market value by $100 or more compared to the 2017 averages. Take the 8.0. In 2017, it averaged just $86. Its 90-day average is currently at $285, and it sold for $300 in April. Now that King is on board, given his comic history, Mister Miracle #1 is only going to continue to rise.

The other issue you'll want to add to your New Gods wish list is the debut of Mister Miracle's better half, Big Barda. If I'm right and Scott Free ends up being the star of the movie, then Barda will be heavily featured as well. She first appeared in Mister Miracle #4. It's already on the move, so you'll want to act soon. Last year, the 8.0 had an FMV of $175, and one sold for $375 in April.

The graded 9.0 has nearly doubled in value in two years. Back in 2017, it averaged $225 and didn't sell for more than $250. This year, it has already brought $450, and it has averaged $413 over the past 90 days.

Having Tom King help with the story has me on board with the idea, but I question the choice of Ava DuVernay to co-write and direct the movie considering her last project, 2018's A Wrinkle in Time, was a disappointment to both critics and fans of the novel. However, bringing Jack Kirby's New Gods to the screen is intriguing. Certainly it is within the same creative scope as his Eternals. Marvel has been keeping the Eternals rumor mill churning in excess these days, most recently the word is that Keanu Reeves is being eyed for a key role.

While the Eternals may be center stage at the moment, the cosmic adventures of Orion, Miracle, Barda, Metron, and (God willing) Darkseid could be even better.

With the potential that the New Gods has for box office success, it's a good time to collect the Fourth World keys while many collectors are still scrambling for everything Eternals.
