Although no actor has been cast yet, and there are no trailers, speculators are still putting money behind an eventual MCU Brian Braddock appearance. Brian Braddock, of course, is the civilian name of the English super-hero: Captain Britain.

Since the original first issue of his self-titled comic (published by Marvel UK) is hard to track down, a lot of Marvel fans, not surprisingly, are looking for other potentially valuable Braddock books. In this post, I’ll list some Captain Britain appearances that you should keep an eye on in the coming months.

First of all, how do we even know Captain Britain will appear in a future MCU outing? Well, most people missed Peggy Carter’s reference to an agent Braddock in ‘Endgame’. That’s not surprising either; since almost everyone was focused on Steve’s wistful lovelorn expressions as he gazes at a relatively young and non-senile Peggy again in 1970.

But, as astute viewers noted the reference is there. If you’re late to the game and unfamiliar with Captain Britain where do you start?

For one thing, for background information on the good Captain and his key issues you can check out my post from July, 14 2018 (Is Captain Britain Coming to the MCU?).

After that, try to hunt down these books, some of which are already seeing movement:

Foom (Friends of Ol’ Marvel) Magazine #15 (September 1976) - first preview appearance of Captain Britain

This magazine is already quite pricey with a FMV of $525.00 in certified 9.8 grade (the last sale in that grade is from December 26, 2018 and sold on eBay for $575.00). The main reason for this high price: Foom #15 is also the first preview appearance of Ms. Marvel. But where other Ms. Marvel keys have seen prices soften, this book might gain a second wind because of the Captain Britain connection. Sales have been few in the last three months- with only a 9.0 selling for $90.00 on 04/08/2019. Otherwise, returns over the last year are mixed with only 9.8 copies seeing positive growth of 7.6% after 5 sales.

Captain Britain #2 (October 1976) – Origin of Captain Britain

I already covered the data on Captain Britain #1, (see here), but since that comic is difficult to find, the second issue of Captain Britain may also see a spike once the news is made official that he will appear in the MCU. Data on this comic looks as follows: only 58 copies on the CGC census. Since 2015, when the first sales are recorded, 9.4 copies are up and positive +155.4% after 3 sales (last eBay auction went for $87.00 on Sept. 19 of 2018) and 9.6 is down negative – 77% after 2 sales (last eBay sale on Oct. 2, 2017 went for $67.50). Only one 9.8 is recorded as selling. That sale was for $399.00 on Sept. 14, 2018.

Marvel Team-Up #65 (December 1977) first US appearance of Captain Britain

This comic is also the first appearance of X-Men villain Arcade. 301 total copies are listed on the CGC census. With the winning team of Chris Claremont and John Byrne together it deserves a read simply for highlighting an early team up of the future X-men gurus. In July of 2018, when I first posted about it, you could get a certified 8.5 copy of this comic for around $60.00. Today that 8.5 costs $65.00 making this book still affordable in lower grades. The data over the past three months, however, shows that the real growth has been on the higher grades. Best returns can be seen on 9.4 copies which are up a positive +30.8% after 4 sales. The last sale of a 9.4 went for $159.00 a week ago (on 05/05/2019, eBay). The last 9.8 sold on Comic Link on 02/27/2019 for $410.00. Currently MTU #65 has a FMV of $350.00 in 9.8, $150.00 in 9.6 and $90.00 in 9.4 grade. But it was much cheaper a year ago.

Marvel Team-Up #66 (January 1978) second US appearance of Captain Britain

Feeling left behind? Don’t worry, the subsequent issue of Marvel Team-Up continued the story and also features the first full appearance of Arcade. This book is otherwise following a similar pattern as its companion. Current FMV in higher grades are= $200.00 in 9.8, $80.00 in 9.6 and $42.00 in 9.4 grade. Returns over the past three months show a drop of -14% roi in 9.8 grade after 2 eBay sales (03/06/2019 = $249.99 and 05/08/2019 = $215.00). Now may be a good time to buy.

Marvel Super Heroes (1979) UK Magazine #377 (August 1981)– Captain Britain gets a new costume

Finally, we can end with a hard to find book with no sales on record at GoCollect.com yet. This issue is still worth looking for and most likely copies will turn up once Braddock makes his MCU debut. Sure, he looks constipated on the cover, but that’s probably just Captain Britain’s excitement about getting a new costume – which he does in this issue. No sales data anywhere on this book, which makes it hard to gauge whether it’s gained in value over the last few weeks. No eBay copies listed and it is ‘out of stock’ at Mycomicshop.com. Do you own a copy? I would send it in to CGC and wait for Captain Britain to arrive.
