30 years ago, Jurassic Park roared into theaters. Based on the book, Jurassic Park took the world by storm and created a multimillion-dollar franchise. The original film still holds up to this day, though subsequent sequels may look a bit funny on higher-definition televisions. As the franchise still has its claws firmly in the pop culture zeitgeist, Stern released a 30th Anniversary Edition Jurassic Park pinball machine.

The machine is the same as the Jurassic Park that was already out save for a 30th Anniversary logo. The game comes in three editions: Pro ($6,999), Premium ($9,699), and Limited Edition ($11,099). Only 500 of the LE's were made, and all are sold out. We recently added a Premium version to our collection a few weeks ago, and this game is fantastic.

While the pro version is fine, premium and LE's offer more on the playfield and in some cases a different gaming experience. Jurassic Park pro and premium have almost identical playfields and toys -- but the premium and LE feature an animatronic T-Rex that captures balls and spits them back out. This game was designed by Keith Elwin (Godzilla, Iron Maiden) with art by Jonathan Bergeron.

This game features the following:

3 flippers
3 pop bumpers
2 slingshots
4 up-posts
1 spinning target

The call outs and music are reminiscent of the first movie, on which this game is based on. It's easy to get lost in the game as there are plenty of objectives to keep you busy.

If you're looking for a new Stern for your collection, this should be high on your list. This game is challenging -- good luck getting the ball in the T-Rex's mouth! Yet as frustrating as it may seem, this game is a blast and perfect for fans of the franchise or pinball enthusiasts. On the second-hand market, prices are hit or miss depending on which version you buy.

Currently on the Pinside Marketplace, there are a number of pro and premium machines for sale, with prices close to the MSRP. If you're looking for an LE, there is one for sale at $17,500. I do not see prices going higher than this -- per Pinside's market data, prices have softened on the LE which has a median asking price of $15,500. Prices on the premium version are climbing, with the median asking price at $10,000 with prices trending up. Pro versions have a median asking price of $6,175, with prices trending down.

If these prices scare you, there's also the Home version. Home version games are scaled-down versions of the Pro, with different toys and playfield. The home version is still fun and does have a T-Rex that will grab the ball, but it is a different game. Home versions are still for sale at $4,999, but home versions almost never retain their value. But if you're looking to have a machine in your home for your friends or family to play, they're a terrific option!

Overall Stern's Jurassic Park is a great machine. The callouts and DMD animations are engaging and fun and capture the spirit of the first film perfectly.
