For the first time in more than a generation, a live-action feature film version of He-Man will debut on June 5th, 2026. Produced by Amazon Studios, Mattel recently revealed the entire cast on February 23rd for the film which includes Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Jared Leto as Skeletor, Idris Elba as Man-at-Arms, and Morena Baccarin as the Sorceress. The film is currently in production.
The comic book collecting market has generally responded positively to the news. Let's take a closer look at some of the biggest sales during the past week.
A CGC 9.6 copy of He-Man and the Power Sword CGC Sold for $2,500 on February 25th.
Though not a traditional comic book (it's about half the size), He-Man and Skeletor first appear in print in He-Man and the Power Sword, an illustrated mini-comic book that was included in the packages for the original Masters of the Universe toys in December 1981. Graded copies of this book are extremely rare; there are only 26 Universal blue label copies of this issue on the CGC Census. In addition, there isn't a single 9.8 on the Census; three 9.6s sit at the top of the Census. There have only been three publicly recorded sales of a 9.6, all on eBay. Each one of those 9.6s have come up for sale on eBay during the past three months.
The last of these sales on February 25th was a doozy, setting an all-time high for this book: $2,499:
Only a week earlier, a different 9.6 sold for only $1,750. I wouldn't be surprised if the seller is kicking themselves for not waiting five days until news broke about the He-Man movie!
Interestingly, raw copies of He-Man and the Power Sword sell for much smaller amounts in the $40 to $110 range. This raw copy, which appears to be in high-grade, sold for $120.
Scrolling through recent eBay sales for raw copies of this mini-comic, it appears that 10 to 15 copies sell each month. This suggests to me that there may be a grading opportunity here. Because there is such a small supply of graded copies on the market, it appears that collectors are willing to pay a premium for those. And there is a large supply of raw copies available on eBay.
The FMV of a CGC 9.8 of DC Comics Presents #47 is about 50% higher than it was about six months ago.
Collectors are more familiar with DC Comics Presents #47 (1982) which includes the first appearances of He-Man and Skeletor in a traditional comic book format. Personally, I prefer He-Man and the Power Sword since it has a better cover and predates DC Comics Presents #47, but this is still a significant late Bronze Age key issue which is included in GoCollect's Bronze Age CPI. And it's been on a bit of an upswing the past six months contributing about 3.58 points to the CPI:
The 30- and 90-day averages of $1,875 for a CGC 9.8 are about 50% higher than the 1-year average of $1,269:
While those sales pale in comparison to the all-time high of $3,500 which was set in December 2021 during the "comic boom," these numbers are impressive when you consider that we've been stuck in a long-running bear market.
We also saw a bump in sales volume during the past week with 14 copies of DC Comics Presents #47 selling during the past week since February 23rd.
