As Jim Cramer says every night on Mad Money, “[t]here’s always a bull market somewhere." In other words, even during stock market crashes -- or comic book bear markets -- there's almost always something worth purchasing on any given day. You just have to find the deals.

Even in our current comic book bear market, one key issue that is currently lifting the entire Modern Age CPI on its broad shoulders is Invincible #1. Even with a recent dip during the past week, this key issue is up nearly 26% over the past three months across five contributing CGC grades:

While a CGC 9.8 copy of this issue (the second most common grade on the Census) is still selling far below its all-time high sale of $7,500 on August 28, 2021, its value has definitely been trending significantly higher since a two-and-a-half year low of $2,050 in November 2022. Today, it's FMV is $4,200 and its 30-day average is $4,725 which is about 17% higher than its one-year average:

Clearly, this issue has been riding high after the conclusion of the highly regarded third season of Invincible on Amazon Prime which recently concluded in March 2025. This particular 9.8 sold for a robust $5,000 on March 16th on eBay:

This rise in value is even more remarkable when you consider the fact that the number of CGC 9.8s on the CGC Census has nearly doubled since the "comic boom." Back on December 31, 2019, just months before the pandemic began, there were only 243 9.8s on the CGC Census. Today, there are 438.

Like the S&P 500, the Modern Age CPI is weighted, meaning comics with large market caps have a much larger affect on the CPI than comics with smaller market caps. For example, CGC 9.8s of Invincible #1, with its large market cap of $1,839,600 (this grade's current value multiplied by the grade's population), has a huge impact on the overall Modern Age CPI. Invincible #1, with is five contributing grades, contributes nearly 700 points, or 17%, to the overall CPI of 4,036. In other words, its weight is approximately equivalent to the weight of the smallest 25 comic books in the Index. Roughly a third of the value of the entire Modern Age CPI comes from just three books (Invincible #1, The Walking Dead #1, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars #1.

Because Invincible #1 is so heavily weighted, its recent rise in value over the past three months has lifted the entire Modern Age CPI by nearly three percent over the same period of time even with a recent dip last week.
