Welcome back to this week's top pics from Heritage's weekly Sunday through Tuesday comic book auctions! Heritage holds weekly funny book auctions which feature key issues, overlooked comics, oddball memorabilia items, and more. These auctions are a must if you want to beef up your collection! Here are my top picks for you to watch.

Secrets Behind the Comics

One of the more unique items for any collection, Secrets Behind the Comics is a 100-resource guide for anyone looking to break into comics. Written by comic legend Stan Lee, the book was created after Lee wrote a piece for Readers Digest on the same topic. This book features profiles of notable creators such as Syd Shores and Al Jaffee. This book also goes into detail on the creation of Captain America.

CGC has graded 43 of these thus far. This CGC blue label 6.5 with Off-White to White pages is one of 12 similarly graded examples. The one-year average for examples in this grade is $504, making this an affordable piece of unique comic history. If you're looking for a conversation piece for your collection, this is it!

Reform School Girl

Without a doubt Reform School Girl is one of the most popular comic books of all time. Despite the title and sultry cover art featuring Marty Collins, the stories of "childhood delinquency" are somewhat common stories we would hear growing up. This comic was one of the many used in the infamous book Seduction of the Innocent by Dr. Fredric Wertham. This book is highly collectible and always realizes strong prices in every auction and sale.

This CGC blue label 2.0 features Off-White to White pages and presents extremely well. To date, there are only 49 on the census, and these books seldom come up for auction. The last sale for a blue label 2.0 was in October of 2021 when the book sold for $2,880. If you're looking for an inexpensive yet highly collectible piece, this is it. If you're looking for a book to invest in, this is a strong book to look into.

Devil Dinosaur #1

Before there was the absolutely fantastic Moon Girl and Devil Dino on Disney+, there was Devil Dinosaur! Devil was accompanied by his friend Moon-Boy, who is a part of the Small-Folk species. The series was short-lived, only lasting for seven issues between April and December of 1978. Devil Dinosaur would make appearances in comics here and there, but in 2017 Devil Dinosaur was back in Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, which lasted for 47 issues before coming to an end. In February of 2023, the Disney+ of the same name premiered on Disney+, introducing a new generation to the large and in charge dinosaur, and his brilliant and heroic friend.

This CGC blue label 9.8 with White pages is as good as it gets. This minor key book from Jack Kirby seems largely overlooked, which could be a good thing for the right buyer. Right now the one-year average for 9.8 examples is $319, making this an affordable and fun book. If you're a new fan of the character or new to collecting comics, this is the perfect book to buy!
