It was an eclectic selection on the Hottest Comics as Superman, Usagi Yojimbo, and Godzilla were in the spotlight this week.

Once again, we take a dive into the chilly waters of the Hottest Comics. While it’s easy to concentrate on the top performers, it pays to delve into the murky depths and see what issues are making surprise appearances in the top-100 best-selling issues.

With that in mind, what comics snuck onto the grand stage this week?

19. SUPERMAN #1 BIG TIME COLLECTIBLES EDITION (NEW TO THE LIST)

Typically, death issues don’t retain value on the secondary market. In the case of Superman #75, it’s one of the better performers. Granted, you’re not going to get rich flipping Superman #75s, but it remains a popular seller nonetheless.

A testament to that enduring popularity is the anniversary series of variant covers. Here, you have Big Time Collectibles' platinum edition homage to the Superman #75.

22. KANAN: THE LAST PADAWAN #6 (NEW TO THE LIST)

Sabine Wren is all set to make her live-action debut, and that has had this issue in the hot seat for a couple of years now. The closer we get to the premiere of Ahsoka, the more popular these Kanan issues will get. After all, the show will be tied closely to Star Wars: Rebels, and Kanan is the comic tie-in, which means you get many first appearances in these early issues.

In this case, not only do you get Sabine’s premiere, but you also get Ezra Bridger and Hera Syndulla.

76. AVENGERS #57 (NEW TO THE LIST)

Will Vision Quest ever see the light of day? There’s been talk of the show since last year, but hardly anything has been made official. For that matter, no one in the MCU has mentioned Vision since he battled his White Vision persona and flew away. Still, fans love the living android, and there’s plenty of buzz surrounding his return to the MCU.

No wonder Avengers #57 and its classic cover have reentered the Hottest Comics.

85. USAGI YOJIMBO #1 (NEW TO THE LIST)

The samurai rabbit is back on the Hottest Comics this week, and his first self-titled comic has burst onto the scene. When it comes to Usagi, this tends to be the most popular of his key issues mostly due to prices and availability.

His actual first appearance in Albedo #2 is harder to find and commands hefty values on the secondary market. That makes Usagi #1 much more appealing to collectors and investors.

97. GODZILLA #1 (NEW TO THE LIST)

No, this isn’t Godzilla’s first appearance, but it is his most famous comic. After years of terrorizing Japan on the big screen, Marvel Comics grabbed the U.S. publishing rights in 1977. He then was given his first ongoing American comic series.

You won’t find many self-respecting comic shops without a copy or two in their back-issue collections, so getting a Godzilla #1 isn’t a tall order. With more Godzilla movies and shows on the horizon, it will undoubtedly lead buyers on a quest for this issue.
