Welcome back to this week's look at Heritage's Sunday night movie poster auction! Each week Heritage auctions off some truly unique finds across all movie genres, such as movie serials, animation, science fiction, romance, and more. Each week I find a few gems that could be overlooked! Here are my pics for this week's unique finds!

Dune (1984) Universal One Sheet VF

1984's Dune, based on the Frank Herbert novels that began publication in 1965. The first novel would create a media franchise that includes sequels, comics, video games, and movies. The first feature-length film was David Lynch's 1984 space opera which had an impressive cast featuring Kyle MacLachlan, Patrick Stewart, and pop sensation Sting. The movie was not well received in its initial release, though it has a cult following. Due to the movie's lackluster reception, all sequels were unfortunately canceled. The Dune universe would not see another film release until the 2021 Dune.

This unrestored poster is noted as being in Very Fine condition, but it has noticeable creases and wear. Posters that present in higher condition have sold on Heritage for $119 and $73, both in February 2024. I don't see this poster going above $40 in this condition, but if you're a fan of good camp and the spice of space, this would be an incredible piece for your collection!

The Jungle Book (1967) Walt Disney One Sheet F/VF

The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling had been on Walt Disney's radar for some time. Disney's original vision was to create a series of movies based on the stories - yet rewrites, production, and ultimately time, stood in the way. Walt Disney himself also died in December 1966. The Jungle Book was released in October 1967 and would be the last animated film Disney himself would ever work on. The movie has been overall praised for its style and music and is still celebrated to this day. The movie would even inspire the Disney Afternoon animated series, TaleSpin, which featured characters from the movie.

Heritage notes that this unrestored poster is in Fine / Very Fine condition. There are signs of wear, including creasing, but the color on this poster is particularly vibrant. Similar posters have sold on Heritage for between $94 - $169, so I fully expect this to stay within that range. This would be a great addition to any Disney collection, especially for those of you who collect merchandise from properties Walt himself worked on.

Killer Ape (1953) Columbia Poster Fine / Very Fine

Based on the 1934 newspaper strip Jungle Jim, Killer Ape is the 12th film in the Columbia serial. The comic strip would come to an end in August 1954, but the serial continued until 1955 with a 16th chapter. The series would remain in the public eye off an on thanks to radio and television, as well as comic book reprints of the strip. In 2015 Dynamite Entertainment would release a new Jungle Jim series to varying degrees of celebration. Much like many of the serials of the era, this chapter was met with lukewarm reception. The movie is campy and poorly acted, but serials are a fun reminder of what once was for fans of comic book and pulp-era heroes.

This Killer Ape poster is unrestored and is noted as being in Fine / Very Fine condition. There are signs of wear, but this is a really exceptional piece from the serial era. This poster is exciting and fun, and could likely be had for a steal. I believe this poster could easily sell for under $100 due to its somewhat obscure titular hero, making this a great piece for pulp hero fans.
