Welcome back to this week's look at Heritage's Sunday night movie poster auction! Every week Heritage auctions off some truly unique finds across all movie genres, such as movie serials, animation, science fiction, romance, and more. Each week I find a few gems that could be overlooked! Here are my pics for this week's unique finds!
Blackest Night & Batman and Robin Poster
In June 2009 DC dropped my personal favorite modern story, Blackest Night. This all-encompassing DC event started with Green Lantern and branched into every other corner of the DC universe. This is the story that brought me back into Western comics and remains one of the more celebrated modern stories to date. Blackest Night was written by Geoff Johns and illustrated by Ivan Reis and lasted for nearly a year. A follow-up - Brightest Day - took readers through the aftermath of Blackest Night.
The other side of the poster is for Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely's Batman and Robin series. The series ran from August 2009 through August 2011 and is easy to find in graphic novel format. Many fans enjoyed Morrison's take on the Dynamic Duo, which made the series a success. Despite being over ten years old the story remains relevant and a good read for any Batman fan.
This double-sided poster would have been found in comic shops across America. Chances are if you bought comics around 2009, you probably saw this poster in your shop. This unrestored poster is noted as being in Very Fine condition and is perfect for any DC fan!
Johnny Cash Live at Folsom State Prison
In May 1968 Johnny Cash At Folsom Prison was released. Cash performed at the now-famous prison in January of that year, where he performed many of his hit songs - including Folsom Prison Blues - to a crowd of inmates at two different times in one day. Both sets were largely the same with a handful of song changes. The performance would become a defining moment for Cash, as well as the city as a whole. The town continues to honor Cash via a 2.5-mile trail that takes you to the famous prison.
The album was a hit for Cash, and helped revive his waning career. The Man in Black performed at many other prisons, showing solidarity with those inside. This black and white poster is fantastic. Heritage notes that it is unrestored and in Very Fine + condition. This should be on everyone's watch list.
Star Tours
In 1987 Star Tours made its galactic debut in Disneyland. Based on Star Wars, this ride has taken thousands (if not millions) of guests through endless adventures through the galaxy. While both American parks now host Galaxy's Edge - a fully immersive Star Wars-themed land - we should still honor the original Star Wars ride. This was one of the first rides in a Disney park that was not based on a Disney IP, as Disney would not outright own Star Wars for a few more years. This ride can be found in almost every Disney Park worldwide with the exceptions of Shanghai and Hong Kong.
This stunning unrestored poster features one of the ships that takes guests on their journey, as well as C-3PO and R2-D2 who appear on the ride. This is a great poster for both Star Wars and Disney parks fans!
