If you collect basketball cards, take a look. PWCC had several 1961 Fleer rookie cards featuring three of the greatest players in NBA history: Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West, and Elgin Baylor in last week's auction. Several of these cards are PSA 6 EX-MT too!
1961 Fleer Basketball Wilt Chamberlain Rookie #8 PSA 6 EX-MT
While most people debate whether Lebron or Jordan is the GOAT, many forget that Wilt "the Stilt" Chamberlain was easily the dominant basketball player of all time. Chamberlain owns 72 NBA records, including the most points ever scored in an NBA game (100 points), the most points scored per game in a season (50 points), and the only player to average 30 points and 20 rebounds per game in a season. Not only was Wilt the only player to average 30 points and 20 rebounds per game, he accomplished that feat seven times. In my opinion, Wilt definitely deserves to be a part of the GOAT conversation.
This rare PSA 6 of Chamberlain's 1961 Fleer rookie card also received an "Exceptional" grading from PWCC in terms of its "eye appeal" for its "centering, corners, colors, and surfaces." Several months ago, another PSA 6 of this card sold for $5,456.00 on eBay. As of March 30th, the current bid on PWCC was $5,500. Final sale price? $9,300!
1961 Fleer Basketball Jerry West Rookie #43 PSA 6 EX-MT
This is another exceptional card from the 1961 Fleer Basketball card set. Perhaps most famous for serving as the NBA's logo, West earned 12 All-NBA First or Second Team honors, five All-Defensive Team awards,14 All-Star game appearances, played in nine NBA Finals, and was named one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history.
PWCC actually has two PSA 6s of West's 1961 Fleer rookie card up for auction this week. Back in February, one PSA 6 of this card sold for $2,325, and another sold for $2,025 on eBay. As of March 30th, the current bids are $725 and $675 for the two cards. Sure, they will likely sell for higher, but these two cards are looking like excellent deals right now. In the end, this #43 went for $1,950.
1961 Fleer Basketball Elgin Baylor Rookie #3 SGC 5.5 EX+
One of Chamberlain and West's teammates on the Los Angeles Lakers, Elgin Baylor was also named one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history after making 11 All-Star appearances, making the All-NBA First Team 1o times, and once averaging over 34 points per game and over 14 rebounds per game for three consecutive seasons. During the 1960-61 season, Baylor nearly averaged 35 points and 20 rebounds per game.
PWCC has two of Baylor's 1961 Fleer rookie cards up for auction this week: an SGC 5.5 and a BVG 4.5. The SGC 5.5 (seen in the photo above) received an "Above Average--Top 30%" Eye Appeal designation from PWCC. As of March 30th, the current bids are $430 and $110 for the two cards. The card pictured realized $810 in the end.
